Breast MRI showed LIVER lesion
I am very very worried for my mom. She has been cancer free for 2.5 years and a routine breast MRI results came back today. The radiology report says there is a "subtle focus of slightly increased T2 weighted signal within the caudate lobe of the liver with a diameter of 3.6 cm."
She is going for a liver MRI tomorrow. I feel like my worst nightmare is coming true and am flipping out.
What are we looking for the results from tomorrow's liver MRI to say or not say? How do you diagnose mets to the liver? How can you RULE OUT lets to the liver.
She is only 51.
Thank you in advance for any help.

Hi AlishaCatherine,
I don't know the answer to your question but wanted to make sure to bump this so someone who does might see it. Your Mom should be very proud of you since you are such a good daughter and care so much about her diagnosis and treatment. She is blessed to have you. I hope that all turns out to be just a blip on the radar and nothing ominous. Hugs and best to you both!

Oftentimes "spots" show up on the liver (for some reason, the liver causes lots of uh-ohs on scans) when they are, in reality, nothing. Scans are so incredibly sensitive that they can pick up "nothings"--I call them nothings, because after a biopsy or closer look they aren't anything at all. The medical team will hyperreact--not necessarily a bad thing--because of your mom's previous dx. I've had so many scares because of normal physiological blips on my scans, blood tests etc. and because I'm high risk, I have to allow myself to get tested further to rule out any problem.
Remember, the first report is often suspect. Your mother's blip may very well turn out to be nothing. Keep us posted.
Hugs

Thank you for your reply. I hope it's totally nothing at all and we can all move on from the hell/anxiety/worst case scenario we've been living for (only) a day! I'm just sick to my stomach. My guess is today's liver MRI will just lead to a liver biopsy or some other test. We emailed her doctor and said we cannot bear to wait a whole weekend for results so she said she will call maybe this afternoon but more likely tomorrow with the MRI results. Waiting is the worst.

I have an awesome update. The MRI took place today at 10:45 and they already called to say that is it not cancer. It's something called focal nodular hyperplasia (FNH) and it has no potential to become malignant. I am crying I am so relieved. This cancer thing is a mindf**k! Thank you for allowing me to post my fears and questions here.
