Best place to stay in or near Yosemite Valley?

You guys give such great (often life saving) and certainly life improving advice...I would like anyone's input on vacationing in Yosemite Valley California. We will be there 3 - 4 days after spending time in and around Monterey. Where did you stay, what sights are must see...etc. It will be my husband, 7 year old and myself.

I have decided as I finish up the 2nd part of my 3 part treatment for this stupid recurrence, I am going to splurge with a trip to Yosemite and to visit some cousins in August. I can't wait to see my son get to fly on an airplane for the first time! I would like nothing more than to plan a vacation while I have to start chemo next month. Surgery done. Radiation done (tomorrow!), now 4 rounds of Taxotere or 6 rounds of Xeloda - tbd. I hate thinking and worrying about chemo!

    Awesome trip! I stayed outside of the park in Tenaya Lodge which was beautiful but the park is huge so you might want to look into staying in the park itself to cut down on the driving in and out to see the sites. Hopefully others who have stayed at one of the park's accommodations will post some advice. Have a wonderful trip.

    Evergreen Lodge is just outside Yosemite and looks really nice. I've never stayed there - just at the nearby Camp Mather which is for San Francisco residents only. Have a fabulous trip

    Hi, I live near Yosemite NP. In the years before we moved here, I visited the park often and stayed in various accomodations. The park has every thing from tent camping to a rather up scale hotel. Anything outside the park is miles from the valley, perhaps an hour or more. Getting reservations might be your biggest challenge, as Yosemite is so popular. Since you are flying from out of state, I assume you won't be lugging around any camping equipment. If you don't mind basic, there are cabins, which we find OK. There's a motel type place, and then the very nice hotel. Yosemite NP has recently changed vendors and the names of all these accomodations have changed and I don't know what they've been renamed. I would urge you to check out the reservation line and make your decision quickly. We've finally had rain this winter and the waterfalls are going big time. You won't lack for interesting sites to visit and they have shuttle buses to take you to those places. I know you'll have fun no matter what. Good luck with your treatments. Jan

    We recently stayed at the Evergreen Lodge. It was quite nice and the food at their restaurant was excellent (although on the expensive side). If you stay there you should be aware that it is located in the area affected by the Rim Fire. While the lodge was saved, you drive through burnt areas to get there.

    Thanks for your suggestions everyone! I will book in the next day or two. Today was celebrate end of rads! Got a pedicure and met hubby for dinner followed up by watching my six year old son take his first private baseball lesson. Oh and forgot we have to bring in cucumber, grapes and celery (green things) for his St Patrick's day party so I had to hit the store too.... All after working today. I don't know if radiation made me tired but my schedule sure does. I am so happy to focus on researching for this trip rather than worrying about damn chemo. ;)

    We stayed in a cabin in Foresta once, which was just outside the valley floor if I recall. It was a terrific location - very quiet but an easy drive to the sites/places we wanted to get to.
