Hi all

As every other cancer patient i discovered i had cancer and fighting it as best as I can.. learnt i had triple negative few months ago the most aggressive type- Highest grade. . High ki67.. invaded lymph nodes. . Felt one bad news after the other. . Decided to fight it head to head and do my best to be positive.

I am now over with the chemotherapy and will have surgery performed next week. My first choice was mastectomy but my onco and surgeon convinced me to go for lumpectomy, so this is what i am going for. Plus I will have node underarm removed. One node invaded and was biopsied.

My question to the ones who have experienced the surgery. . What should we expect.. especially that our body is tired from chemo aggression.

Wishing all of you fastest cure and an excellent health.

Thanks.

H

4everstrong, congrats on finishing chemo! Firstly, I want to invite you to pop in on the thread here called, "Calling all TNs". It is a very active and friendly thread for triple negative fighters. You will find a lot of information and support I am sure.

Yes you are right, our bodies are a bit depleated after chemo, to be going for surgery. But you will do fine. Do you have help at home? It is good to have someone there as you would after any surgery. I do suggest pilows, pillows, pillows. You know that fuzzy pillow that you always wanted to buy but never really thought there was a need....just get it! I found a recliner to be restful too, although do not hesitate to ask for help putting the footrest down. I found just pulling the refrigerator door open to be difficult. But you will improve every day, so just be patient with yourself. Will you go home with drains? Probably so. I wore a zip up hoodie kind of jacket with pockets, turned inside out so the pockets were on the inside next to my body, and put the drains in them. Drink lots of water. Hopefully others will pop in with other tips. Hugs to you and prayers for a quick recovery. Please keep us updated on how you are doing, and my best to you always.

Yes, you will have drains and it will be a little hard to raise your arm but each day you will get stronger.
