Dear all,

I need help in trying to decide about smooth or textured silicone implants. I read that the textured ones may help lower the risk of scar tissue forming around the implant, but I also read that there is not enough evidence of that. My Dr. recommends the smooth ones for me.

I would appreciate your comments.

Thanks

I was at my PS last night discussing this. He wants to put a new implant in & suggested a smooth one. He said the textured ones tend to "grip" more. To him that meant that I would be more conscious of the implant. And a smooth one would have a more natural feeling. Hope this helps.

Hi, I know this thread is a few months old but I also have this question.

My ps is recommending I get textured rounds. He says that the textured ones stay in place better. Since I've repeatedly brought up how much I hate that my te's are sliding into my armpits, I know that's why he's suggesting them. But I've read that although textured ones do tend to stay in place better, they also tend to rupture more.

I've been through so many surgeries I really want to make the best decision. A decision that will hopefully keep me out from under the knife for a long time to come.

So is there anyone who has the textured rounds? Are you happy with them? How long have you had them? Any advice or tips?

Sorry I cannot help you. I got the smooth round ones and they look and feel great!

Hopefully someone will respond regarding textured ones!

I asked my BS about how many ruptured implants he has seen. He said that he has seen none since the silicone was redesigned and put on the market. He has only removed the much older styles that were in place for a long time. Because of this, I considered both silicone and the firmer cohesive gels. The cohesive gels are textured because there is a problem if they rotate since they are shaped like an oval. I have had no problems with them and love my athletic shape. I feel you need to handle sample of both and talk to your PS about the look you are trying to achieve. Good luck!

    Thank you for your replies.

My ps did show me several different types of implant samples. I spent a long time looking them over. I do like the feel of the round textured ones. However, holding them in my hands definitely doesn't tell me what it will be like under the muscles in my chest. Or whether or not it will likely rupture in the near future. I realize that is impossible to predict with great accuracy.

I'm glad you like your textured implants. That gives me something to think about as I've read that the textured ones are actually uncomfortable as they feel as though they are glued to the chest wall.

I had textured Anatomic implants by Mentor. They are a cohesive Gummy bear type so they don't rupture, even if they are punctured. I had it placed over my pectoral muscle for greater comfort. Had a TE initially under my pectoral, which I hated, so had that removed, did fat grafting, got to an A cup, but finally decided I just wanted to have a breast so got another TE, over my pec as I said, and then finally my textued Anatomic silicone implant, by Mentor by the way. Between the small amount of fat left over from fat grafting and the Seri, silk mesh sling reinforcing my skin and implant, I can't even see my implant edges and no ripples when I flex my ams.PM me if you want more details.
