My surgery is at 10 tomorrow, when can I expect to be alert enough for my son to come see me? I am not having recon and my BS said surgery would be 2-3 hours depending how long it takes her to find my lymph nodes.  I want him there as soon as possible but I don't want him to be scared when he sees me either.  Thanks!

It all depends on how long they keep you in recovery after. My surgery was at 10 am and I think I had visitors by about 4. You will be groggy as they drugged me up pretty heavily in recovery. I had reconstruction as well though.

Good luck tomorrow, I felt so much better once my surgery wascompleted. Will be thinking of you tomorrow.

Well, I was supposed to be at the hospital at 9:15 for surgery and it was after noon before I went back to pre-op.

It probably took about an hour or so from remembering waking up in recovery to being somewhat coherent.

How old is your son? If he is younger than 10 he may be very disconcerted when he sees you after surgery. You'll have an IV, you'll be wearing a hospital gown, and you may have bandages. As an adult, we can understand those things, but young children are often frightened by them.

I was told that my BMX would take about 2 hours, however, it ended up being an almost 4 your surgery. Recovery was miserable with severe nausea. My kids are adults, but I'm glad they didn't come to the hospital and see me like that. My head really didn't clear until the next day.

He is ten. He isn't really squeamish and has been in hospital settings before. I guess we will have to play it by ear.  He is a total mama's boy and he has been telling me every five minutes today he loves me so he is thinking about it and I think it would be hard on him to NOT see me. I guess we will see how everything is going.  Thanks ladies!

ETA.  Mustlove, do you know your name on the left only shows "mustlovepoo"??? I was like, well, that's an odd name, haha! I don't know if it is like that for everyone.

My 3 kids were totally fine seeing me in the hospital after my surgery. They didn't come until the next evening though since it was around 9 pmwhen I got to my room and the next day DH was busy with work and they were at daycare.
