Heart damage with adriamycin

Anyone end up with heart damage after adriamycin? I'm having a very high pulse. My doc is ordering some tests. I didn't have heart problems before chemo but my doc says I'm the Murphy's Law of medicine! 😛 I only received between 300-400 of the drug. I heard 500 is the lifetime max.

Probably. The MUGA study showed my heart was strong enough to withstand the adriamycin. We knew I had afib , and some other issues. Now, 3 years later, it's getting worse. PCP thinks I'm heading for CHF. Cardio just ordered an echo. Was complaining to PCP about the A, he said, what choice did you have. Shut me up, he was right. Do I like it? No. Do I know what's next? No. But I'll deal, we all do.

    Best wishes.

Thx for responding. I'm sorry about the CHF. That's a rough one!

I had 4 rounds of AC and am on my 4th taxol. My heart rate has steadily increased as well. They ran a few tests just this last week after it was in the 120's,but no answers yet as to why it's so high. Please let me know if you find anything out. Best of luck.

When you're in the middle of chemo, the body does all kind of bizarre things! My pulse was frequently high due to dehydration. Sounds like your docs are on top of it.

My ECHO and EKG were normal. I must say I'm shocked because I've had one problem after another since treatment ended. The ECHO showed slight regurgitation in one of the heart valves, but it was insignificant. Doc said there was no adriamycin related heart damage. He thinks my high pulse is due to one of the meds I'm taking so he's contacting another doctor of mine to discuss which one to tweak. I'm relieved!

I'm really sore from the ECHO. I had my expander/implant exchange surgery a little over a month ago and he pressed that wand over some sore areas. The worst was the pressing on my recently healed broken ribs. That really hurt, then I got reactive lymphedema in my lower left arm. I'm massaging it out though and it's better.
