phase 1 vaccine trial in Seattle

I got approved for this trial, but backed out at the last minute for a couple of reasons. One was travel from East Coast to Seattle to get the series of vaccine and the follow-up. The second was that I happened to be sitting next to a woman who was in charge of vaccine trials at NIH (not for cancer, but for other things like HIV). She told me that it was possible in a Stage I trial that I would not get a high enough dose to be effective. I thought it would be the other way around--that they would be throwing too much at me. I did not get a chance to talk this over with the coordinator of this trial, though.
TectonicShift--you know how much I LOVE Fred Hutch and Seattle Cancer Care Alliance. I may join this trial at a later date. The treatment, care and research at this place is just awesome. It's still a second opinion for me due to distance, but thankfully my son lives there so I have two good reasons to go. -

I pray that this vaccine works! Too much suffering is caused by breast cancer
-
sounds good and I will ask my oncologist next week.

tectonic shift….thank you for this info as I just emailed and called in regards to this trial! They were very kind and informative! This is my second trial to request admission into. The first trial I was to far out from treatment and denied … this one seems more promising!! Thank you again! And please let me know if you hear anything more on this trial

I'm trying to get into stage II or III of this trial. I live in Portland OR so I'm close. What I've heard so far is that they aren't seeing much response with stage I - yet. That's being assessed in the spring. The side effect profile is low enough to move forward to stage II in late Feb. They're wait listing right now.q
Criteria are fairly specific. You have to be NED and not receiving any treatment but AI's. I'm also not sure if they 're taking pre-menopausal women. I'm on the wait list so far, and may not get in until stage III
I do hope it's successful, as getting our immune systems to fight cancer is the way of the future

Leslie13…when you say they are not seeing much response with stage 1…yet….are you referring to sigh up for the vaccine or the effect the vaccine is having…I am just wanting to be clear for myself. I did call and asked to join this trial. They told me they would put my name on a list and I would be called in Feb. Thank you for sharing what you know about this trial!! Hope it works for anyone who wants to join this trial to be excepted!
-
They have more than enough applications. They just told me they hadn't seen a lot of response at the lowest dose - yet. It may be too soon to tell
-
And yes, phase 1 is closed, and 2 will start in about a month. There's a wait list. There's always stage 3, where you receive the strongest dose. My guess is that it's 6 months away if it's deemed safe to continue

Seattle Cancer Care Alliance is where macb04 got treatment and that horrible radiation story - Deep Regrets

Can u tell us more about that trial. I don't want worse problems! Vaccines from Stem cells are the wave of the future, but if there's risk I could be causing more cancer growth, I'm not willing.
It's just very frustrating to be stage IIIa and not qualify for anything until I have a recurrence. To make things worse, I have Lobular cancer, which responds poorly to standard chemo. I've heard good things about the Univ of Washington's cancer research program, but I don't have the history of past trials like many of you do.
Thanks,
Leslie

I'm sorry Leslie. it sounds good to me but the reservation I have is the horror story macb04 told here about her radiation treatment at SCCA. You can send her a PM for more information direct. I have to do radiation soon but then I will be out of treatment for AI and I would like to try the trial too.
-
Thank you Leslie13! Please keep me posted if you hear anything more!
-
I would not discount participation in this trial due to one persons negative experience with radiation.
-
Does anyone have any up-dates on this trial? I have contacted them and was told they would let me know when the next trial would start…said about Feb or March. I have not heard any up-dates from them. Thank you for any info.
-
Well Hello!! I was called in regards to this trial as they have reached my name on the waiting list. They have receievd my medical records and it appears to be moving forward. I so deeply respect the intelligence of so many on these boards…..so am asking for any feed back of info in regards to the trail. Most times I simply don"t have the intellect to understand such a complex issue as cancer and some treatments, but am so grateful for those that share theirs!! I am five years out from DX and doing great…a bit scary to risk a change and yet don't want to pass an opportunity to further insure I stay in remission!! Thank you, Bonnie

I see from your signature that you were originally diagnosed in 2011. Is there a limit to how long you are from diagnosis to be eligible for trial?
-
Elizabeth1959, They have been wonderful to work with and I am hoping all goes well for me to become part of the trail. No, they have never mentioned a time line. You just need to be NED, Her2- and willing to travel.
