Hi there, I am going tomorrow to get the biopsy done and I am nervous. I found a lump 2 weeks ago and went to the doctor last week and had a diagnostic mammo and ultrasound done on Monday. They did the mammo and then brought me into ultrasound and then the radiologist came in and imaged me for awhile and told me I needed a biopsy. I have two masses that are right on top of each other. They are only doing a biopsy of the top one and said that they both look similar. I'm a little freaked out and think they should biopsy both because what if the bottom one is an issue? She mentioned if the biopsy was ok, I would have to come back in 3 and 6 months to check on bottom mass to see if it has changed.

I'm not sure what to think. I'm 38 and have a 9 year old boy (single mom) and I am really terrified.

If it was me I would most definitely have both masses biopsied. I had two masses so close together that it looked like one mass at first. I went for ultrasoud-guided core needle biopsy and they got 3 samples and told me the results were benign. I went elsewhere for a second opinion and this place did 20 core needle biopsies, including both masses, and three of the samples came back positive for cancer. Masses can have cancerous and noncancerous parts. So, obviously it's important for them to be thorough and take things seriously.

I was absolutely terrified as well but, honestly, the fear has been by far the worst part of this whole ordeal. The surgery has been a walk in the park compared to the fear. Of course, mine came back positive for cancer. There is a very good chance yours will not be cancer.

    Hi temiller,

I had my biopsy March 2nd. I was supposed to have a ductogram because of dilated ducts in the 9 o'clock area of my right breast and a biopsy due to a 1.1 cm lesion in the 3 o'clock position. They couldn't do the ductogram and the doctor recommended a biopsy of both areas. I don't have any results yet, but I feel better having both areas biopsied. I was BI RADS 4 as well. How did your procedure go? Sending you positive thoughts!

Thanks ladies! The waiting is awful! It went ok. It was not too terrible and I have had no bleeding issues w incision site. The radiologist was learning towards fibroadenoma. The masses were not there 2 yrs ago and I'm in my late 30's. I know thise types of masses are prone to younger women so that makes me nervous. I should hear something by Tuesday.
