Having a helluva time finding a Dallas PS for BMX reconst
Im newly diagnosed with a big ILC and Im in Dallas. Im getting a nipple sparing BMX. I picked my BS. Now onto the PSs recommended by 2 BS I saw.
I saw one older PS who has a wonderful reputation in Dallas, yet I think he behaved a little odd during consult (eg talked more about his vacation than my breasts) and there is one terrible review on him in realself.com which scared the you-know-what out of me. I asked the office and him about that and they said they dont know who that is. His office was packed.
Then I saw young PS, highly rated, but been in solo practice only 2 years. He was thorough, kind and professional. I just wish he had more experience under his belt. Everywhere I read, it says to use someone who is very experienced in reconstruction. Im going back to see the young doctor tomorrow for pics of his reconstruction which are on his laptop (not his website) because I forgot to ask!!! Im really not into being someone's practice case. His office manager is kind of clueless too. Tells me to look at his pics of breast augmentation because its the same thing as reconstruction. Even I know better. She says reconstruction is no big deal. Wha? Pardon me? (I wanted to jump thru the phone and well, sort of slap her a little. JK, but not really.)
Im so torn, cant decide, and I want to hurry and get this cancer out of me. Every little ache and pain I have on my left side, I picture its the cancer taking over.
I have searched high and low and just dont know which PS to even go see and the clock is ticking. This process sucks. I got dx 2/15/16 and feel like I should be on the table already getting this cancer out of my body. There is no good resource to rely on to pick a PS. Some docs are highly rated on realself.com, but some cases look like ballot stuffing to me. Too many to be true.
Thanks in advance ladies for ANY and ALL words of wisdom. Your experience is just what I need right now

Warriorwannabe - I had a consult with PS Nicholas Haddock at UT Southwestern in Dallas today. I won't have BMX for a few months (I am doing hormone therapy to try to shrink the tumor) but want to have a better understanding of my reconstruction options well in advance. He's fairly young but has excellent credentials. Even though it was a preliminary consultation, he was very attentive and answered my many questions very patiently. I am not sure yet whether I will go the implant route or tissue (because of my size and build there are some limitations) but I will definitely go with Dr. Haddock for the eventual reconstruction. Best wishes as you sort through your options!

Hi Lunderwood! I checked out his website and am impressed!!! How did you find him? Is your BS at UTSW (Rao?) and recommended him?

I just had Drs Haddock and Sumeet Teotia reconstruction after some really botched reconstruction. I am ocher the moon pleased with them both! Super skilled, innovative and professional.

I am using Dr Sumeet Teotia at UTSW. My breast surgeon is Dr Rachel Wooldridge (LOVE!). I have a long history of using the UTSW system and find it the best around. Dr Haddock, as already mentioned, also comes highly recommended by my BS.
Good luck!

I agree with CarlaEM. I'm traveling from Montana to Dallas to have Drs. Teotia and Haddock fix my mess. I had a PAP flap in March and implants removed and I am so pleased. Going back in 3 weeks for some fat fluff and revisions. I don't think I have cried over my disaster since I had the surgery. I finally feel some hopefullness. I have so much admiration and respect for UT SW and Drs. Teotia and Haddock!

I don't think I responded to your question about who botched me. It was a plastic surgeon in Kalispell, Montana. I wish I knew then what I know now. Go to a surgeon that specializes in RECONSTRUCTION. Recon and augmentation are two different animals!!! But, Drs. Teotia and Haddock are working their reconstruction magic and I'm SO much better than I ever thought I would be. Still not great, but I'm moving toward looking good.
