Heads up ladies... Flu is going around late this year. Vaccine was inly 56% good this year. My son had it two weeks ago, I got it this week. Thought it was just extreme fatigue - rads everday, a post surgical ck up, work, two evening basketball games, stress... Went to express clinic one floor up from rads and nurse practitioner asked if I was aware that I had a fever over 101! Lungs clear, took Tylenol every six hours and got the good prescription cough syrup.... Pressing on through rads. 12 of 30 in the books. No stopping us babe! Rest up if you can this weekend everyone!

2 more boosts to go!!!!! Both are later morning appointments, so I don't have to rise before the sun to get there! Yay!

Kate and Happy, I just met the other RO at my center, he, too is at least 6'5" and a walking stick.. These guys could play Ichabod Crane in a cancer center version of Sleepy Hollow! Too weird. Although my RO is a VERY quiet talker and the other guy is the life of the party talker...

70f9/--- You are a Warrior! I hope you feel better soon. Hi Everyone My RO is an Indian woman. Very calm she answers all my multitude of questions and is never in a hurry. I'm almost into week five!! Yes!!💃💃💃💃💃She says I ask more questions than anyone and sees it as a challenge 😂 What are you going for a biology radiation degree? I told her I'm a curious sort. She also says she likes me. 🌸

The worst thing is the metal table is doing a number on my bad back. I could hardly sleep last night due to the uncomfortable feeling. I have been stretching etc. RO says no arthritis meds sooo I hope it doesn't get much worse. Have a great weekend all Rest up hydrate and ENJOY LIFE. I'm off to see my boy at college.

My RO is an Indian man. I just got a letter from him yesterday that his contract is up at the hospital, so his last day will be next Tuesday.

He did give me good news though... I was to have 9 more treatments, 5 of them boosts, but he examined my crispiness yesterday and shortened treatment, now I only have 6 left!! One regular this afternoon and 5 boosts next week. A little good news can really push the clouds away.

Now the question is...... If I'm done on the the 4th, where should I go for spring break on the 14th?? I would love beach, but crispy open skin probably will not like beach... A room with a view somewhere.... I will search homeaway.

    We can do it!!

peabrain, don't worry! I have a fancy machine for holding my breath; it's because I had a mastectomy and am getting left-sided chest wall rads. In my sim, they figured out that they could miss my heart better with the breath gating. If you're not doing that, it's because you don't need to. And seriously: it's just one more thing to break--I almost broke it today

The fatigue hit me hard today, and I woke up this morning scratching my chest... I'm getting itchy and sore. But it's almost done! I can't believe how quickly this has gone.

    Nap time.

    8 to go. Happy weekend!

Hi everyone! It's my birthday today...and I celebrated by having #9 of 30! Then I went and got my ear double pierced (triple if you count the one piercing that was already there). I had wanted to do it before my diagnosis, but then I didn't manage to do it before chemo started and I didn't want to risk infection. So I went to the teenybopper place in the mall and had it done. :-)

My right arm has been sore, and I just assumed it was from being radiated on the right side or being up overhead during the treatment. But when I was changing clothes earlier, I noticed a red streak going from the inside of my upper arm all the way down past my elbow. Seems strange...I might have to call the RO. Has anybody else had visible sore red streaks in areas not actually being radiated?

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend!

Durhamgirl, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! Fun thing to do for yourself, yay! on the piercings! As for the red streaks, I'd call about that...

KateB79, You aren't kidding about the fatigue. I was feeling it a bit, got my boost today and had errands to do before heading home... I'm going to nest into the couch and nap, I can barely stand up. Only 2 more to go! 2 more to go!

Have a great weekend all of you beautiful lovelies!!!!

    Warrior On!

Happy Birthday Durhamgirl. I hope all is ok with the red streak on your arm.

I got my sim done today. It went fine. I got my tattoos and blue marker all over my breast. Not the cutest look. My first treatment is March 7th. Not the best time of day but hoping after that the times will work better with work.

OMG - these people are stressing me out. Today I was offered another five days worth of Ativan with a warning and a threat. One I shouldn't be having nausea with my radiation even though I told that it was possible by one nurse and the RO. Today the possible changed to "weird", and the threat that I would have to see my primary for a work-up to see what is wrong EVEN THOUGH my lab results are better than ever. And then finally I was informed that I'm on a low dose! Really? for an occult tumor they are going to lightly radiate the general area and a very positive lymph node (lightly dose that area too?) What am I doing this for?? 33 treatments of a low dose with invasive metastatic to the lymph node? And you only get to do radiation once? #13 today. Won't see the RO until Tuesday. Now I am good and upset. That's what I get for telling them I feel nauseas? Disbelief?? Bought myself a piece of cake! So there!

Happy Birthday Durham Girl ! good for you ...we all need a treat now and then....I started my Boosts today, they told me they were only going to do the xrays today, and start my boosts next monday....and I said "NO"....when I spoke to the RO YESTERDAY,she said I would have the xrays and she would review them and I would have my first one today.......so the techs went and checked with the RO, and sure enough,,,,,I got the xrays , she reviewed them, and I got my 1st boost today.....I dont think they realize how we are counting down in our heads ,on calendars, everywhere....to the end.....and I was not going to wait and add on one more day......so I had to speak up.....I think I would have been heartbroken all weekend.....I want this over.....and I got my way......so now only 6 more to go...... Have a great weekend everyone...and Durham Girl , "eat cake" ..... you have earned it !

DurhamGirl, happy birthday! And I shall join the "call the doctor" refrain. Call the doctor. Stat.

Marijen, I think cake is exactly the right answer. I mean this whole-heartedly!

All this talk of cake. . . .

I have noticed, per some of the conversations pages back, that the rads folks are generally less warm and fuzzy than the chemo folks. I do have two techs whom I adore, but the others (including, I hate to say, the nurses) are kind of just like "next. . . ." Good thing I like my RO (the tall man! the gentle chameleon!), or I'd be grumpy.

TWO DAYS OFF. Yes! I'm having a glass of wine (or two--why not?) to celebrate Friday. :)

Edited to ask this question: anyone else get a tickly, dry cough? I can't tell if I'm getting the ick, or if maybe my lung is getting crispy.

KateB79 - maybe the rads people have had their brains fried by all the stray rads.....

    Loopy

Too late to change right in the middle (almost) so I'll thank my lucky stars for light rays and not say another word until I'm out of there!

Happy birthday, Durham! I started rads on my birthday. Let's do better next year.

25/30 today, and my last whole chest/nodes/armpit. Five boosts next week and I'm done

Another bit of interesting info. They are charging $12,000 every week just for recoding the machine and adjusting measurements! (for my light rays). I should just go out and sun bathe..... probably have the same effect. But really I ask Jesus to direct his rays towards me and I'll be drinking ginger ale for my upset tummy. That's all I need. Amen.

TGIF Everyone - Yay for 2 days off! 20 down for me today and quite crispy and as I type here I can barely keep my eyes open at 5:30pm

Peabrain - thought of you today as I put my gown on incorrectly leaving the treatment area and passed many people as I walked into the dressing room - looked into the mirror and laughed out loud - 1/2 of my right foob was visible!!

Welcome Welcome brithael - so sorry you are here but so glad you found our awesome group! Good luck on the 7th...

MissV- UGH bet the Miaderm tasted yummy.. I am finding the same fatigue - worthless by 7pm..

Meme2006 - great to hear from you - so sorry for your skin burns - hope all heals quick! Good luck with Tamoxifen - I will be starting Arimidex and have same anxiety

Kimmer - awesome news no se's for you on Tamoxifen - thanks for sharing

7of9 - thanks for the flu heads up and soooo sorry you and your son got it! Have had it - not fun! Hugs!

Brimton - my neck and shoulders have had enough of that table - so with you on that! I am getting a scrip for some PT! Have an awesome time visiting your son!

Kate - I had mastectomy and getting left side whole breast and chest wall rads and can breathe normally! Per RO - I went to PS week before sim and he did last fill and sim showed Heart in the clear so I think the breathing really depends on how all looks on sim... at least I hope so since I have been breathing normally LOL - hope you are not getting the dreaded cold/sinus thing that the world has - knocked me on my ass for a few days!

Happy Happy Birthday to you DurhamGirl - way to treat yourself - Agreeing with all - definitely call the RO about Red Streak...

Marijen - really just so sorry for all your stress! Hope the nausea gets better on its own! If Primary doc is nicer maybe give them a call and see if they can help with the Ativan scrip ..

Have a great weekend all .. big weekend here! My Twin brother's wife was dx with Ovarian cancer 9 years ago age 31 and beat it! She actually was on the Dr Oz show for having a baby after Ovarian cancer - my godchild who is now 6!! They started a fundraiser (Time Out for Teal) 8 years ago to give back to the Sandy Rollman Ovarian Cancer Foundation who helped them tremendously during everything. Back then the venue was very small in a Sports Bar. Now it is a Top Notch Reception Hall with several bands performing, silent auctions of great items and basket raffles etc. My husband and I go and help out every year and this year it is this Sunday! I made 2 baskets for the Auction/Raffles and hoping to have enough energy to help and enjoy it!

mdoc thanks for the advice but I'm sick to death of jumping through their hoops. 20 more rads and cancer is history as far as I'm concerned. Did everyone see the post made by John Smith at Color Gen topic? The future looks bright!

Today, the White House released some details of the Precision Medicine Initiative (#CancerMoonShot), here.
Color Genomics was mentioned in the press release.
Perhaps the delays have something to do with their contribution to this effort.

    Hi All!

Just back from simulation and tattooing. Oddly my left arm went numb and hurt during the process. Maybe because I lifted weights today hard, and had PT appt where my arm was overhead for the majority of an hour. I was expecting that I'd have to do gated breathing like Kate given my L chest wall rads after mastectomy, but they said no. huh. Worried about my heart. I have sharpie on my neck - going to take a while for that to go away...thanks! The techs were nice, but I still felt like a number. I became annoyed though when I mentioned that maybe my arm was bothering me because of lifting weight a few hours prior and one tech jumped on me about whether or not I was even allowed to lift weights after surgery. Seriously? My surgery was almost 6 months ago and I had restrictions only while my drains were in...after that I was free to do anything I wanted. It was the same tech who wanted me to back off exercise in case it would mess up the sharpie with sticky dots. Back off lady!! I decide what and how much I do with my body.

Happy Birthday Durhamgirl!! How exciting to get some piercings! Booo for the red arm streak though...hope it turns out to be nothing of concern.

Marijen - so sorry for your continued stress with getting Ativan and the way they treat you. It is so ridiculous. Hooray for cake therapy! I had some margarita therapy last night (just a small weak one).

Really don't want to start radiation Monday. Wish there was a way around it. A little bummed about it, but going out to dinner soon with my love. Will put on my happy face as best I can (I'm usually happy anyway...being bummed will pass quickly). He came to the sim appt with me today, but I didn't realize he's not allowed in.

Hope everyone has a great weekend without radiation appts! Get outside and have some fun! If we had some freshie snow I'd be snowboarding....waiting for the next storm to hit the southwest.

    - Andra xo

YEAH FOR FRIDAY - 19 down - 13 to go. MDoc, Brimton and DiDel less than 3 weeks to go. The countdown is on>>>> I am starting to itch under my arm and around my shoulder blade. I started using hydrocortisone cream. I haven't noticed any blistering yet - just really really red - fingers crossed. I do feel very tight so I hope that subsides once treatment is done.

Durhamgirl - HAPPY BIRTHDAY you deserve to celebrate

Marijen - I can not believe how difficult the prescription has been for you and having to suffer through. Eat all the cake you need you deserve it.

MissV - I had to laugh at the toothpaste reference. I catch myself grabbing the weirdest things totally out of the blue. Had a good laugh.

Scotland - congrats on finishing regular treatment - hopefully boosts go fast for you. Did they do another sim for the boosts. No one has said anything to me about it yet. It looks like we have a very similar diagnosis and treatment.

Jerseygirl22 - congrats only 2 more to go - Are you bringing something to the techs when you are done. I am not sure if I am or not. I just want to run out of that place on my last day.

Congrats to everyone else I missed on either recovering, completing, moving on to boost or just starting. This thread moves by so fast but it is great to hear how everyone is doing.

Rest, relax, do something just for yourself during our 2 day break. The weeks are going by fast and this group is so supportive and it has really helped to get through the weeks.

    Heart

Hi everyone! Thanks for all the birthday wishes! I just had a lovely evening with my family and our best friends.

So I did go back and see my RO this afternoon about the red streak, plus I noticed an area of swelling just past the elbow on the inside of my lower arm. She recognized it as a thrombophlebitis right away. Out of an abundance of caution she ordered an ultrasound to rule out a DVT. Results were normal. She said thrombophlebitis is not caused by radiation, but I'm not sure. I was not happy to have spent 3 hours of my birthday at the cancer center today, but I'm glad I can be at ease that it's not a DVT.

    Happy weekend everyone

Halfway and I spotted the bell on the counter in the treatment room. On my last day I am sure I will just jump off the table and ring that bell before they have the chance to warn me about waiting for the table to be lowered. I have 8 left and the machine will be out of commission on Wednesday so a one day break next week. So far my skin is fine there is no really reaction beyond the first day. Each night I sleep with it covered in a Manuka honey then place a sheet of flannel over it so I don't stick to my bedding. I am not sure if this will work but on the first day when I placed it on it felt less uncomfortable.

Last night my husband had something in our microwave yesterday and I just listen to the sound. Yikes! It was like a treatment room flashback.
