Got my lumpectomy
Just to say I got my lumpectomy last Monday and now two days later I feel good When I was admitted to the hospital I had a blood test, then an ECG, and then a localization, which is a thin wire (thinner than a needle) inserted into my breast with a local anaesthetic and after that a mammogram to make sure the wire was in the correct place. None of this was uncomfortable. I was waiting around for hours before I got the surgery but everything went well. I would have no fears for any part of this operation if anyone else out there is waiting for it. I also had 2 lymph nodes removed and while I have a cut for both of these operations I have little or no pain and I have not had the need to take pain killers. So far so good. I will not get the pathology results until next week. So hope that this helps anyone who is waiting for a lumpectomy. Best of luck to all of you.

I have to go next Friday for a lumpectomy scared silly , I have DCIS stage 0 grade 1 low nuclear non invasive, I just don't understand how much they take out of your breast, did they take alot out of yours? I am so glad your operations turned out great. your post made me more relaxed

I don't think you have anything to worry about. Your type of cancer is very common and there are more treatments for your type these days and you are at a very early stage, which helps. My mass was 1.3 cms so it wasn't that big and that is all they took out, with a very small margin of skin as well. The incision was only about 1.5 ins if even that. I had 2 lymph nodes taken out too with probably the same incision under my arm. Then I understand that because the bust is full of fatty tissue the Surgeon just pushes the rest of the fat together to fill in the hole left after the mass is taken out, so my bust looks exactly the same. Hope this helps.

Just had my lumpectomy yesterday. The procedure was really no big deal. I did not have a SNB. I had a radioactive seed implant last week instead of the wire localization so yesterday I just went into the hospital, and had the lumpectomy. I feel fine physically, just a little sore. Have not had to take any pain meds. Now the wait for the pathology begins.
