I had the wonderful chance to walk on the Acropolis!!! It is amazing and I remember well that the sky was so blue and bright that it was hard to get my camera to take pictures!!

Here's a link if you want to read more about the original settlement, historic, political, and buildings, including the Parthenon, Mars Hill, theater, and ancient temples. I hesitated to answer the religious site question as a "not what it is remembered for" because there are ruins to ancient temples, but I don't think a lot of people think of it as a religious site.
