Scared of Recurrence - Lump Found

Options

In November 2014 I was dianosed with 2 lumps - Right, IDC 2cm, Stage IIA, Grade 1, 0/2 nodes, ER+/PR+, HER2- and Right, DCIS, 1.5cm.

I had a lumpectomy and didnt get clear margains so then in June 2015 I had a double mastercomy and tissue expanders put in. In between November and June I had FEC Chemo. In November 2015 I had implants put in and had been recovering ok. I have just found a lump on my scar incision left side that feels like a pea. I went to the Breast Surgeon and he said he would keep an eye on it as he doesnt think its cancer. He said it would usually be on the cancer side for recurrence. I am now freaking out and so upset. I see the Surgeon agan in May. I want a lumpectomy to get rid of it and test it. Can I have a lumpectomy with implants?

My daughters can sense something is wrong again. I hate to worry them. They are 8 and 12 and both arent coping well. I would love any advice. Take care. x

yes, you can have a lumpectomy with implants. My PS did one and BS and PS did my second one. Get s second opinion. The only way to know for sure is a biopsy. I have had 3 lumps biopsied since my cancer... They were benign, malignant, and benign. The malignant one, they were "sure" was scar tissue. I insisted on a biopsy because I needed to be able to sleep at night. I am glad I did

Lill, I had two additional lumps pop up in between surgery and rads. They did a biopsy on one and it turned out to be benign. The other they did an US. I'm glad you're getting yours checked out for peace of mind. Sending best wishes to you. Please let us know how it goes when you can. Gentle hugs!!

I am glad I found this mentioned. I have had a bilateral mastectomy as well, and recently found a few small lumps in my non-cancer side. My oncologist said they were caused by the implants and that "there is no tissue there". She suggested I see the plastic surgeon, but instead i went back to my original breast cancer surgeon. He did a quick ultrasound and proclaimed them to be cysts. When I asked if there was anything to be concerned about, he thought they would go away on their own, but if it got bigger to come in and he would aspirate them.

Has this happened to anyone else? What could cause the cysts? There are about 3 of them, from what I can feel.

I have an appointment on Friday and will keep you updated. I would like to know what in the cysts too Megan. I'll let you know what my surgeon says on Friday. It's scary. :(

Good for you insisting it get biopsied. My "scar tissue" 2nd lump in bmx reconstructed breast was just found to have IDC Stage 1. 3 different doctors swore it was nothing but one was determined to get it taken out. It was in a hard location near the sternum and hurt like heck getting it biopsied but at least now I now. Two lumps in my breast now have IDC.

Glad you are getting it examined. As you've seen here, doctors can be "sure" it's just scar tissue, but the reality is biopsy is the only way to be 100% sure. Hopefully all good news and you can again sleep soundly at night.
