Treatments to improve scar appearance??
I had my right mastectomy on 1/25/16. Does anyone have any recommendations on products that may improve the appearance of scars?

I remember my ps giving me tape to put on scar. I also used scarfade over the counter..
I can't remember the kind of tape.

I have seen some tattoos that look like skin and cover up scars. I know you have a long way to go in scar healing but this something to keep in mind. Take care!

You can use Scaraway silicone strips - which sounds like what meow described, or Kelocote, which is a paintable silicone gel. My PS prefers Biocornuem, which I have been using and like. You can get these in drug stores, or online.

You might want to talk with your surgeon as to what would be good to use so soon (less than a month post surgery) as healing is still going on. Rather external sutures or surgical glue was used might make a difference too.
For scar reduction I have used Cocoa Butter - not the modern lotions with some cocoa butter in them but plain Cocoa Butter - with great results on myself , my family and our 'animals'. When I was in my mid 20's I succeeded in obliterating about a 1/4 of the skin on my leg from just below knee to just above ankle on outer side of leg. (Yeah - my 'stupid' - training a green colt. . Long story shorter - the entire area should have scarred badly but didn't thanks to using just cocoa butter on it, all these years later no one can see any signs of where it was.
Talk to your Dr before using anything so soon after surgery.

I plan to ask my surgical oncologist today and probably will wait and ask plastics too. Just wanted some ideas to throw around. I agree about it being too soon to start. I had glue. Thanks for your input!

Search on "emu oil" for discussions. Many oils lie on the surface, but apparently emu gets some penetration.

I bought some coconut oil using it on my neck.

I use Bio oil. I was told that massaging the scar is just as important as use the oils. Op since 25th Feb 2016 but scars fading really slowly. I read somewhere that scars can take 6 months to a year to fade but I think mine will take longer.

I threw keloid scars and used the silicone strips described above to great benefit. Both knocked down the raised part and lightened the discoloration. Good luck and Happy Holidays!
