    I made a bourbon barbecue sauce this morning, mixed it with the leftover brisket from yesterday. I'll make coleslaw later in the day and will make brisket sandwiches on brioche buns for dinner. I will also make mashed potatoes as an additional side

    BBQ & coleslaw sound wonderful to me.

    Eric, you have hit the nail on the head. And after looking at the financial side of all this stuff it is pretty scary. With my dad being almost 89, we will be ok for afew more years, , but OMG. I don't know how most seniors manage. And the truth is they don't. And it's pretty well hidden from the world.

    Mother nature has t eased us this last week. 60 degrees Fri and Sat Sunshine....Now they are sayin g snow Tuesday night into Wednesday with maybe 4 inches by wed night. Of course, I am taking my Dad to wound Clinic from the Rehab center alone that day.......

    hsant - I'm coming to your house for dinner, lol!  Love brisket sandwiches, prefer them to BBQ pulled pork, and also put coleslaw on.  The Whole Foods by my hairdresser just started carrying some awesome brioche buns - super soft - and I love them for sandwiches and burgers.  I was relieved that the plumbing thing was easy to fix, I was dreading the possibility that the leak was under the walkway, lawn or garage.  A few years ago the large city pipe that snakes up under the street supplying water to each house broke under my lawn (I am the first house on the corner where the pipe is the largest) and they had a hole in my lawn 8x8x8 with backhoes, etc. all night - the cul de sac had no water for a couple of days, and the street was blocked off - it was a mess.  I was amazed that when all was said and done they had replaced the pipe, filled in the giant hole, re-sodded my lawn, poured a new sidewalk, and re-paved the street.  Our only involvement was the geography - but my neighbors kept driving by and looking at us like "what did you people do?" I felt bad, for us and them, lol!

    chisandy - ugh on the GS cookies - my DD brought home Tagalongs she got at work.  Tagalongs are my kryptonite.

    eric - in hindsight - always 20/20 - we could have made this repair ourselves.  Isn't that often the way?  DH is pretty handy but usually defers with plumbing and electrical.  I have to say the fee was very reasonable and he came to the house three separate times, so I did the clean-up with a little grumbling.

    paxton - it goes together if you say it does!

    auntie and red - hope that dads are under control and you have a calm week.

    lacey - the service for your friend sounds lovely, as did he.

    Red, I hope for you that the weather forecast and pattern changes to a milder form on the day you take your dad to the wound clinic.

    Last evening about 6:45, as we were watching the Celtics play at an odd time (for us), DH announced that he supposed we were "backing into ordering pizza for dinner". Not wanting to create a contradictory fuss ;), I helped select the vegetable topped and pesto chicken topped small pies. I made a mixed green salad to go with the pizza. It was all good....but I think I orefer my homemade pizza now

    Tonight I plan to make a meyer lemon chicken dish, which we'll have after the gym and stretching class.

    I got some pre-grated cauliflower (gotta avoid scraping my knuckles or exacerbating my LE by manually-grating or hauling the Cuisinart out of the basement) and there’s a pizza-crust recipe on the package. It calls for egg, grated parm and mozzarella as binders--no sense in wasting good Parm Regg. on that so I bought some grated domestic parm. and mozz. as well. Will bake and freeze the crusts tonight.

    Took dad to the foot doc today. Feet are healing nicely with no visible signs of infection. He gets to resume physical therapy this week. He was in better spirits and the swelling in his arms has gone down. Less fluid means easier breathing. Dad didn't complain about anything today and he was joking with the cnas who were dressing him. It sounded like he was trying to get along. All in all, a good day!

    Western omelets for dinner, (substituting bacon for ham) with onion, peppers, tomatoes and cheddar. Home fries and biscuits will join the omelets.

    Dinner tonight: baked zucchini wedges topped with garlic, olive oil, lemon zest and Parmesan, and roasted cauliflower (which I could eat all day every day). Okay, and homemade vanilla ice cream with hot fudge sauce and cinnamon pecans--y'all dragged it out of me

    I ran 6 miles tonight and just ate a little bit of ham and an apple....and a whole liter of water.

    Six miles--good job! I'm trying to get back into a fitness routine--I miss my barre classes, but don't feel ready for them yet, just slowly trying to work back up to it.

    Back in the day, I could, every night of the week, run 10-15 miles at a nice and easy 6 minute per mile pace and think nothing of it. Now, 35 years later.....I'm not quite sure what happened. :-)

    Luv, I send them Invoices-got a form off the web. Put in my hourly rate x time spent on the phone for "review and correction of billing errors" and send it along. I've never heard back but it makes me feel better. When I have time I may just go to small claim's court, Lord knows they won't show and I'll be awarded the amount.

    Red and Nance, I'm thinking about opening a business when I retire, I will offer to look at insurance claims for free, but claim $30% of what I reclaim. For older people, sick who can't understand, it will be for free. P##ses me off

    Y'all eat too much brisket lol

    Last night went to the ER, signed myself out against medical advise when they wanted to admit me will see my PCP tomorrow. I am the worst patient.

    I'm ok.

    Not sure about dinner.

    Maybe salmon and lima beans with butter and pepper.

    Eric, I think they call it age, and maybe, breast cancer. Back in the days ( 2+ months ago), I use to run a 10-15 miler every Saturday, now I am glad I can walk a couple of miles a day , mostly from just not moving much since dx ( my fault really). I did not feel any fatigue with chemo, keeping fingers crossed, and in fact, started back on running a little since.

    Anyways, I got through 1st chemo great, few SEs and now I am all anxious about the 2nd infusion on Friday again. I managed to eat everything ( except peanuts!) this first round and am hoping it will be the same the next few rounds. I think someone mentioned that eating iron rich foods will help prevent low rbcs, so I am taking the opportunity to indulge. Working so far .

    Thanks everyone for helping me keep my mind off this darn cancer.

    Bedo, hope you are telling the truth that you are ok!

    Meatless tonight -- pressure cooker minestrone and a baguette. Not feeling great today with bouncing blood sugars for some unknown reason. Probably stress. Anyway, soup is always the answer.

    Last two days have been a bit rough. Hands and feet are suffering, but the good news is, one more cycle is done! The house is taking tons of time. Had one of those hard discussions with the contractor yesterday, pointing out all the errors that the carpenters made while installing the cabinets. We can fix them, but it won't be as designed. And so it goes. Today we chose where on our marble slabs we will get the pieces from. Then to the paint store to try out even more colors. Then dealing with the HOA insurance. Lunch at a Shwarma spot and then home. I won't give you the whole run down.

    So, I did the samosa meat with lentils and rice on Sunday night. Last night, the kid and I went to the house to test paint colors and headed for an Indian dinner. When we arrived, the restaurant was closed for Monday. So we ended up at Pasha!!! Pasha twice in a month. BONUS! We shared a hummus appetizer and she got the friend calamari appetizer for her entree, while I had the lentil soup. She finished with a baklava [half came home for her husband who didn't want it so Mr. 02143 was happy!] and I had a Turkish tea. Tonight I made some saffron bulghar which I served with the 2/3 sandwich I was unable to finish at lunch. I was so hungry, and just ate a tiny bit. Good thing! I have put on two pounds this month.

    Did I mention that Lacey brought three hand helpers to our lunch? I was most ungrateful, not accepting any of them. This woman is a special person.

    Hope the Dads are doing well. And anyone in the way of a storm is doing the same.

    Tonight for dinner was salmon marinated in white miso paste, fresh ginger, rice vinegar, soy sauce and toasted sesame oil. I wanted to do this with black cod, but my fish department didn't have any. I sautéed bok Choy, and made forbidden (black) rice

    Kiks, for me it's just age....I showed up here while Sharon was undergoing treatment and was welcomed.

    Sharon did well through the chemo; Dose AC and Taxol, followed by rads. We would walk a couple of miles many nights and I think it helped her. I know it helped me. I saw chemo side effects in the early 1980s and when I found out Sharon needed it, I was scared to death. I was quite surprised to find out how much effort is now put into side effect management.


    Bedo, you would make a mint at that. :-)


    You are amazing Susan...punch lists, contractor management, project management and chemo...wow.....


    I'm anxiously awaiting word from Carole. That doesn't sound like any fun. So far my phone has been quiet..which is a good thing.

    Sounds like Carole's area was spared. More damage to western side of Lake Pontchartrain. But late word sounds very bad from Pensacola with same storms continuing up into southern Alabama.

    We had the oldish frozen steak last night. I had browned it and simmered it the night b4 but never finished. It cut into my Downton Abbey viewing time so I just refrigerated it. Finished it last night with frozen peppers and onions and some leftover little green peas over basmanti rice. It was OK not really what I was looking for in taste. We had it again tonight with more seasonings and some Parmesan cheese on top. Better that way. I would have stirred in some sour cream but DH didn't want any and I hesitated to open a new carton just for a spoonful or two. Not sure what tomorrow will be. Appointment for pedicure so I'll make a quick grocery run. Out of milk for sure

    Bedo - hope your PCP visit goes well tomorrow. Sorry you're under the weather.

    Susan - you continue to amaze me with your schedule. Hope you get some down time in there someplace.

    Went to town with DH today to his dentist appt. Cold and raining. We've been spoiled with 70 degree weather. Fun purchase (not) - new vacuum at Lowes.

    Basic salad for dinner - lettuce, carrots, shredded red cabbage, radishes, tomatoes. Accompanied by two slices of toasted Rosemary bread. It got too late to fix anything more substantial.

    Yesterday I met my SIL for Asian/Fusion before a movie. She wanted fried calamari. It didn't meet up to my expectations. Too much breading. I had house special LoMein - shrimp, pork & chicken. It came with a lovely bowl of egg drop soup. We went to see 45 Years. Definitely an Art movie & left you with nothing resolved. Lots of good food for thought. Each of us had a different opinion of what would happen next. Charlotte Rampling was amazing.

    Glad to hear that Carole’s town was not in the path of the twisters & deluge. That storm system is moving north--will hit us as rain by 9 am, turning to wet snow by noon and ending as drier snow by midnight tomorrow, at least on the n. side of the city. We’re expected to get about 3”. But down near Midway (where Bob’s main office is), they’re expecting 7”; and in Oak Lawn, where my husband’s hospital & other office is located, could get as much as 9”. Indiana, Kankakee/Bourbonnais & eastern MI are facing perhaps a foot or more, with blizzard conditions. Bob’s staying down at the Oak Lawn Hilton tomorrow night, and has a drug co. dinner at Cooper’s Hawk Winery restaurant about 3 mi. s. of the hotel--he’s not sure Cicero Ave. will be driveable. Our housekeeper isn’t coming in tomorrow--she lives due west of the Loop, which is probably going to get more snow than we will, and her house only has a parking slab instead of a garage.Looks like Gordy & I will be on salting and snow-broom-and-shovel duty, at least for our deck, porch, stairs and the path to our garage. Our neighbor will snow-blow our sidewalk so we don’t get ticketed.

    Today was a marathon of therapy & vanity. First LE PT, then getting my hair de-rooted, trimmed and straightened (I’d let the straightening slip-- it’s supposed to be 3-4x a year, but I think I last had it done in July, with my last trim and root touch-up in Oct.). It was nearly 8pm by the time I was done, so I just hit the hot bar at Whole Foods and brought back some chicken thighs Vesuvio and collard greens for dinner. Had an ounce of Williams-Selyem Pinot Noir.

    Thanks for the concern. I'm grateful to wake up this morning with our house intact and my mother's and my sister's, too. There were some anxious moments when the tv weather people announced that a powerful tornado was headed toward Madisonville. Today the morning news is full of pictures of devastation and interviews with people who survived scary storms.

    Dinner last night was linguine with olive oil and pecorino romano (my current favorite) and meat sauce out of the freezer. DH had a salad with his meal. I could actually have done without the meat sauce but I added a spoonful to my serving. Ok, two servings.

    The visitors left early yesterday morning. They had planned to go to Oak Alley Plantation but after all the alarming weather forecasts, they decided to get out of Dodge. After beignets in the French Quarter and other food and drink indulgences, it's back "on the wagon" for me today. The scale was most unkind this morning. I had meant to go to a WW meeting Monday morning, but we took the MN visitors to NO for a little sightseeing.

    Dinner will be grilled meat, steak or lamb chops, steamed veggies and salad. Boo Hoo, no martini or old-fashioned but maybe a glass of chardonnay. Maybe not.

    Specialk, I get my brioche buns from Whole Foods. Unfortunately, they were out, so I settled for potato buns.

    I'm picking up an organic roasted chicken from Whole Foods for dinner, with mashed potatoes I made a few days ago. I'm not in the mood to cook this evening
