Mominator - I remember that line. But I thought Violet said you are a "cruel" little miss. Isobel will be lucky to get a Christmas card. But Isobel seemed interested in the job with no pay, didn't she?

Marijen, interesting possibility of Violet saying "cruel" but the episode's top quotes included "cool little miss"

Brookside, I hope her claws do come back to haunt her!!

ceanna, I think the foreshadowing has been very heavy these last few episodes. I am very afraid that Thomas's story may take a very tragic ending. Which makes me very upset because I think Thomas could have had a redemptive storyline.

Perhaps I am too much of an optimist, but I keep thinking things will turn around for Thomas...

I am wondering if Robert and Cora might come up with the idea that Thomas go to London with Edith and Marigold in the London House. The house will then be available to Robert and Cora to stay when Downton is open to the public, which it will be, with Mosely providing information about the history of Downton, and Carlson and Hughes the social life of the upper crust.

I've been on tours of stately homes in both England and Scotland the past few years, wonderful fun, especially the Queen Mum's home (Castle May?) where Charles and Camilla still visit annually. The housekeeper has some stories.

Or...Thomas can help Mary with the pigs now that he is reading up on how to do so.

OK ladies, only a few more hours before Downtown for the ladies who view it live. I'll probably watch it sometime on Monday.

Any last comments, predictions, wishes, or fears?

We must be getting close to Anna's due date. Will it be a boy or a girl? What's a good name for their baby? I'm thinking a girl, somehow I think Mr. Bates will be gushier with a baby girl. I think a name that begins with A, or somehow is related to Anna, to honor Anna, the love of his life.

I think Barrows will find a wonderful job and wonderful life. There is just too much foreshadowing of his potential downslide.

I like your thinking, Brookside. So maybe Julian Fellowes did all this horrible foreshadowing so that Thomas's redemption will be all the sweeter? I've really gotten to like Barrows this season.

I just watch The Imitation Game today, about Alan Turing. He was the head of the team that broke the Enigma code. He was was prosecuted in 1952 for homosexual acts. He didn't have a happy ending.

I have a bad feeling about Thomas.

They've got to resolve the Edith-Marigold-Mary thing. And what about Henry??? Bertie? Edith has to tell Bertie; she can't just slide into a life with him without the truth being out about Marigold!

Is Violet done, or will she be back in the last episode?

Is Branson going to get something together with the lady editor?

Isabel and Lord Merton? Or not?

Mosely and Baxter heading into the sunset together? I hope so.

Daisy and Andrew? Mrs. P and Mr. M?

See you on the other side!

I was thinking if Mosely goes to work at the the school, there might be a reprieve for Thomas?. .? I've never been a big fan of him, he's so mean. But maybe with the young lad going off to the pigs, Carson won't want to do all the work. (We saw a bit of that with the cooking scene-well done ladies!) I sort of see Barrow as a fixture, going down with the ship when the great house is simply no longer.

I saw nor felt no spark between the lady editor and Tom. They are playing with us, I say,.haha.

I agree Bertie has to be told. I actually thought he'd maybe figured it out on his own already, but he was quite obtuse about it last episode.

I say yes to Isabel and Lord Merton, but I think those are two characters they might just leave us to wonder about.

And Maggie better be back! She is my favorite character of all.

Rainnyc: I think Mary is going to figure out Marigold and say something to Bertie. However, remember Bertie saying something about this was a great place to grow up, and then, "God bless you, Marigold." I think Bertie will accept Marigold as well as Edith.

We're due for a big blow up with Mary and Henry if the preview is true.

Isobel and Lord Merton, and Moseley and Baxter, I'm looking forward to their pairings. Mrs. P and Mr. M have a good chance. I'm not seeing Daisy with Andrew. Daisy has more maturing to do.

I'd love to see a calmer Violet back, with a few more zingers for Miss Cruickshank.

I agree about the lady editor and Tom--no chemistry. But she was there in the last episode, and was the first female we've seen him talk to outside the family since the dear, departed Miss Bunting. Which made me think she's a plot device to pair off with Tom.

Mominator, I think that's a good guess about Edith and Bertie.

It is 1925. William died in what, 1918? Daisy's had seven years to mature! Not happening!

Agree that the scene last week with Mr. Carson in the kitchen was a lot of fun!

It's so funny seeing you all speculate on what will happen given I know what happens. Sorry couldn't resist - you all have so many wild theories.

Wow, I didn't think I could dislike Mary more and yet, I can. That she somehow finds her romantic happiness in this episode grates me the wrong way. And that Julian Fellowes garners sympathy for her by linking her character to Barrow's.....mean, nasty, jealous characters...... that are really just misunderstood, unhappy souls???

The only good thing in this episode is that Tom, Edith and Lord Grantham called Mary out for what she is....a bitch!

Well, technically I think only Edith actually called her a bitch... :-)

Honestly, I hope all turns out all right for Thomas Barrow, as I've said before, and I think it may given how the story is going. I actually don't see him as mean or nasty or a bastard, rather tortured, and he hasn't actually done anything hurtful in a while (other than to himself). As Lord Grantham noted, he really does have feelings. and in any case, as someone pointed out, there may be another vacancy on the downstairs side soon as Molesley's teaching career progresses...(though I personally think Thomas should aim for more than just not being sacked...)

Mary, OTOH, really is a bitch.

What was with the kids playing by the gravestones?

On a more practical topic: It sounded as though from the previews there is no show next Sunday...and then the finale is March 6th? Can we all really wait two weeks?

Octogirl, I think that if Tom Branson and Lord Grantham weren't gentlemen of the times, they would have called her the B word. Hehe. Despite the sympathy I feel for Thomas, it was he who recently tried to embarrass Gwen, the former housemaid, so I don't think he has necessarily changed his spots, when it comes to jealousy. But I do have more sympathy for him than Mary, not sure why. I guess because I am a bleeding heart liberal??? LOL

Yes - huge fan of Maggie Smith and just saw her in Lady in the Van based on a true story. I don't want the series to end and did so enjoy it!! Looking forward to the new season of Home Fires. (deleted previous response in case someone missed this episode.)

MsP: one of the reasons I have more sympathy for Thomas is that I am also a bleeding heart. It isn't just that he is gay, it is that he is a member of the lower class. Mary has led a privileged life and should appreciate that and live her life accordingly. noblesse oblige and all of that. Makes her less sympathetic. I wasn't moved by her 'crash widow' whining.

Thanks for the mention of Lady in the Van, I found an interview with Maggie Smith in the Telegraph about it.

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/film/the-lady-in-the-van/maggie-smith-interview/

I had forgotten that Maggie Smith went through breast cancer treatment in 2007 (someone had mentioned it here during the Mrs Hughes suspicious lump episodes or was it Mrs Patmore)?

Octogirl, sounds like we are on the same page. I hesitated to say that I give Thomas more leeway because he is of the working class...probably not fair but that is why bleeding heart liberals are criticized, I guess. LOL

I thought Bertie made a fine point about trust. Edith didn't trust him enough to tell him about Marigold, and as a result, he didn't trust her.

Can we all give a woot woot for Spratt!!!

I did cry all through this episode. I rarely have during this show.I think it's as much knowing it's all coming to an end. I will surely miss it.

    Lady Violet to the rescue.

And thanks for the Lady in the Van tip. I may need me summore Maggie before the day is out!

The Lady on the Van is magnificent. Dame Maggie Smith is in almost every scene and she just chews it up. She's 180 degrees opposite of Violet in this movie.
