Hello I'm 29 years old had type 3 breast cancer had chemo, radiotherapy. . Blood clot πŸ˜‘ just had mascectomy and 2 weeks ago they started reconstruction they have put an expander in to stretch my skin and it has literally been 2 weeks since surgery!

I'm not a heavy smoker I quit having my 2 a day 8 weeks before surgery is there any chance by having one (to celebrate I made my 30th birthday ) if I had one cigarette would it effect my healing? ??

Many thanks!

It could. My bigger concern is that you could fall off the wagon. Nicotine is very addictive, more addictive than heroin. It causes blood vessels to constrict, so that healing tissues don't get the blood supply they need. It can easily lead to tissue necrosis (tissue death.)

I applaud you for kicking the habit 2 months ago, but you are not out of the woods both concerning smoking, but especially in terms of healing these very serious wounds. I would suggest you forgo the cigarette so as not to destroy your progress.
