Waiting for ultrasound results...and scared.
I am 62 and have had annual mamos since I was 40, and have never had a call back, until now. I was called by my gyno's office on Monday, and told that a 2mm nodule was found on my mamo. He ordered a diagnostic mamo and an an ultrasound. Was able to get in today. When the tech called me back for the tests, she said she would be doing my ultrasound. And then she said something about a diagnostic mamo. I told her that I was supposed to have that too, and she said that was up the the radiologist, and based on the results of the ultrasound, and why they do the ultrasound first. It took her all of 2 minutes to do it. I asked her how deep it was and she said not too deep. It was at the 9:00 position about and inch above my nipple. She then said she was bringing the pics to the radiologist and it may take a while, so I could get up if I wanted to. I no sooner got up, and within another 3 to 4 minutes she was back, said I could leave, and that no additional mamo was needed. She said the results would be sent to my doc, and it could take two days. I tried my hardest to get her to give me some info, anything...a wink, a "I wouldn't worry"...but she gave me nothing. Any ideas on why it was so quick, (I was in there for about 7mins total) and why the diagnostic mamo wasn't done? Good or bad sign? This waiting is killing me...

best of luck to you. When I had my ultrasound done it took forever...keep us posted. hugs

gosh it is so unfair for the tech to know something and won't tell you Shayvoe, but I guess a Tech is not qualified to divulge information. Your nodule is very small so either way it sounds like you don't have a lot to worry about. I would imagine that if you had the Tech would have been making another appt for you rather than telling you there is no need for a further mamo. I guess you know by now and that all turned out well.

The tech doesn't know anything and they should never be telling you anything. A tech knows how to position your breasts & take a picture. The radiologist knows how to read & interpret the picture.

Well...I still know nothing. After writing my initial post, I was called two days later by my gynecologist, and was referred to a surgeon for further evaluation of the nodule. The appt was on Wednesday of this week and he has ordered an ultrasound guided core needle biopsy, which I will be having on Monday. Had to wait 5 days because I take low dose aspirin daily. The surgeon only sees patients on Monday and Wednesday. They went ahead and gave me an appt for next Wednesday to get the results, but said they doubt they will be back by Wednesday, and to call before I come. If not Wednesday, it will be the following Monday before I know anything. It will be 6 weeks after my initial mammogram by the time I know something. That is a very long time to worry. I feel like there should be a better timeframe to get these tests done and to get an answer. Just seems crazy to me.

that is crazy. I had my biopsy and knew results 2 days later. I'm hoping you don't have to wait long and you get good results. The waiting is one of the worse parts. Hug

Finally got the results from the needle biopsy today, and it came back as atypical intraductal papilloma. He said it has to come out for further biopsy as there is a 15% change for precancer or cancer cells to be present. So, I still don't have any answers. Will schedule surgery as soon as I see a cardiologist for intermittent heart palpitations for the last several months. So tired of not knowing one way or the other.
