It has been 22 years since my lymph surgery and 10 since my mastectomy.  (That's the good news).  I've had shoulder pain for 22 years off and on, recently my fingers started to tingle and my range of motion is impaired and now suddenly lymphedema is starting up.   Docs don't seem to know much!   What is the best treatment?   A sleeve?  (Seems like there's a market here for research! )

    Welcome, Buffat20out,

Congrats on the "good news" part of your post--inspiring! Only I'm sorry about the concerns that bring you here. Really nasty little late-arriving surprise!

Treatment for lymphedema begins with a referral to a well-trained lymphedema therapist. Any doctor on your team can write the referral. Here's how to find one near you:

    http://www.stepup-speakout.org/Finding_a_Qualified...

S/he will be able to assess your situation, start to reduce the swelling, order garments to help you keep it that way, and teach you how to manage on your own. Here's more information on lymphedema treatment and control:

The good news on this is that you're jumping on this quickly, which really makes getting things back into control and managing it on-going so much easier. Please do keep us posted on what you discover, and if you have questions going forward, feel free to ask here.

    Gentle hugs,
    Binney
