10. no, not Andrea Bocelli (this time)
-
11. Jovanotti?
-
11. no, not Jovanotti
Brief summary: living male Italian opera singer.
-
12. Younger than 30?
Edit to change question to younger than 40?
-
Thanks Queen Jovanotti fits all of those I think except opera....sorry I wasted a question.
-
13. Tenor?
-
12. not younger than 30. Not younger than 40 either.
-
waiting for the answer to #13.
-
13. Feruccio Furlanetto?
-
13. (sheepishly, shoulda turned the page myself) No, not a tenor.
14. No, not Furlanetto, but you're moving in the right direction.
(and no, he's not performing at the Lyric in Der Rosenkavalier, though he's performed there in the past)
-
Off to the opera now. Probably out for the rest of the evening.....
-
15. Ruggero Raimondi?
-
16. Renato Bruson? (I literally had Ruggero typed in and lost the question...)
-
15. Could it be Enzo Dara?? Interesting guy
-
ML, good minds think alike!!! (Or in my case Google not think--the only living opera singer I knew was Bocelli)
-
Ceanna, Oh, yeah I did a search and I am working on the list of those still alive.
Who said what? Thanks LOL.
-
Nooooooooo......she is leaving us hanging here?
-
LOL, It seems like it could be your guy also....The Barber of Seville. Isn't that a little rascals episode?
-
ML, Barioni is tenor.
-
Yep!! It looks like we are left hanging. Queen said earlier she had to leave by 6pm central which is now past.
-
While the Queen is away the subjects will play!
Queen, I hope that you are enjoying the opera tonight!
-
16..Frontal
-
Sorry! Der Rosenkavalier is long! 4.5 hours, plus clapping.
-
I'll count those all as one question, 'cause I did leave you hanging (love the picture, lover!)
Well, also 'cause it's all the same answer:
15. No, not Raimondi (though I do quite wish to see him!), Bruson, Dara or Frontal
I think I got all the guesses....need another hint?
A hint of elimination: he doesn't have a Wikipedia page.
A confirmation: yes, he is a bass. searching for a more specific descriptor.
-
Well, one more hint: the singer I'm thinking of has a lower range than Raimundi or Furlanetto--they're technically both bass-baritones, while he played Pimen opposite Furlanetto's Boris in Boris Godunov.
-
That was a long show!! I have never seen an opera and always curious what make operas interesting. Hope you enjoyed your evening.
17. Andrea Silvestrelli ?? Looked him up.He has a very DEEP voice....wow!
-
17. yes, Andrea Silvestrelli.
-
And also yes: an extremely deep voice. The roles I've seen him in are the "basso profundo" type, or at least no higher than mid-bass-baritone: Il Commendatore, Colline, Osmin, that sort of thing. The youtube video of Silvestrelli as "the stoned guest" and Gilfry as the title role of Don Giovanni is interesting--Gilfry's a low-ish baritone.
Also a rather big man, with a fairly physical style of performance, so I remember him better as Colline or Ferrando than, say, Timur or Pimen; he does well in Verdi or Marriage of Figaro. (that crops up in the video I'm thinking of)
What's to like about opera? Not everyone does, and that's fine. There's (not surprisingly!) several components--music, singing, acting, not minding that you can't understand the singers--and if any one of them leaves you cold, then opera's not for you. For me, it's the live performance aspect; something gets lost in the recording process. DH and I are just lucky to live within spitting distance of one of the larger opera companies.
-
ha ha had not heard spitting distance before, DH (who is from NC) tells me it's a common expression in US. We say "stone's throw" here.
So which is further - spitting distance or stone's throw?
