Still feel rotten, hopefully I will be on the upswing tomorrow. I did go to my class this morning, came home, ate some soup & napped all afternoon, am now contemplating Barre tonight as it is only once a week & I hate to miss it.

I have been on this site for some time now but new to this group. I was diagnosed in July had BMX in September and went through chemo October through December. I was scared of germs so during chemo i was able to swim in a private pool. Painful at first but I went as often as possible. Once chemo was over I was back at the gym, swimming, using the treadmill and lifting weights (4-5 pounds only)

NOW i just went through my exchange three weeks ago. Had alot of pocket work and the PS wants me to wait six weeks before of returning to PT for myofacial release. She says I can return to the gym at 4 weeks to swim but cannot do weights nor walk or run on the treadmill. Rather she wants me to walk at a slower pace so i don't hold onto the bar on the treadmill and put too much pressure on my arms.

As for day to day life can't lift anything more than 10 pounds. (no picking up grandchildren:(

Once I am allowed back any tips on routines that can get my muscles back in shape.

    Thanks

Karen, if you call fitbit and tell them your unit got broken or chipped or something they can research when you purchased it and they will send you a replacement at no cost. You can contact them through their website, fitbit.com

Welcome PNY. I did not have MX so can't speak regarding getting back in shape after your BMX. I am surprised that you will be allowed to swim after only 4 weeks as that seems (just to me) to be early to work your arms that much. But others will come along and offer suggestions. Please, however, don't overdo any exercise too soon as that can do more damage and set you back more. Start slowly and work up - you will get there.

Welcome PNY. . .I had to start slowly on the treadmill after EX and went from 10 lb weights to none for 6 weeks. I am now up to 5lbs weights but still not overhead. I am still in PT and they have given me several exercises that help with strength and ROM. Dh and I also hike in good weather. I did not succeed in swimming well last summer 6+ months after BMx. That is my goal this year to get at least my breast and side stroke ability back. Frustrating for someone who was once on a swim team and had WSI certification.

Welcome PNY! As others have said, you will want to start slowly and follow the doctor's recommendations. You can always walk and do lots of lower body work while you wait for the 'all clear' for starting with the upper body. When you do start thinking of weights, I would recommend that you start by going through the moves with no weights at all & then very, very slowly work your way back up to where you want to be. Don't rush, don't do too much too soon. It will take time.

SummerSun: Welcome back and stick around!

Ruth: Ugh. Hope you get better soon.

Welcome PNY! You've been given some good advice.

Nats: We grilled out steak for Valentine's also. We didn't have snow but it was getting icy.

    Kindergarten: Keep squatting!

After my walk/run this afternoon, I sat outside to get my Vitamin D.

Rhody....all Fitbit offered me was a 25% promo discount. It took them over a week to finally get it to me yesterday. I've been emailing them back and forth for almost 10 days. it took forever for them to get me this. I'm bummed cuz last week BedBathandBeyond had them on sale. I actually bought a new one waiting to hear from them. With the sale price and BBB 20% coupon it was a good price. I was planning on returning it when Fitbit came through, but now its not on sale and even with their 25% promo it will be more expensive. Now trying to decide if I will stay with Fitbit or go with a competitor. I wrote Fitbit tonight, again!, telling them I was disappointed and that I lost out on a sale price because it took them so long. They no longer give such good deals if lost or broken.

I got 3 walks in today. I using map my run on my phone but I only use it for "real" walks...so not tracking my steps. Part of me misses the tracker and it is a motivator, yet I know how long each of my walks are, so I have an approximate idea of how much I walked!!!

We are having mild weather here in Denver....for at least the next week. Just need to get moving in the morning....today I just couldn't make myself get up so barely got a walk..only to the corner and back, but I got two walks in at work, then DH and I walked tonight.

Tomorrow is my late morning, I don't have till leave till 7:30 so plenty of time to walk before work.

    Welcome PNY.

When I finished my walk at the Y tonight, the lights weren't working in the women's locker room again! That's the second time that's happened since the construction started. guess I'm going to have to start taking a mini flashlight with me.

PNY, I found that I got tired unexpectedly and more quickly when trying to workout after my surgery. It probably won't be such a big problem for you with swimming, but I was walking outdoors and found that I sometimes walked out a bit further than I could walk back without dragging! Keep an eye out for fatigue, and stop and rest when you need to.

Tonight the only thing I did was lay on the couch and nap for 2 hours. I had grand intentions of going to the gym but my body had other ideas, I have been getting up at 3.30am every morning to let the dog out, he has been diagnosed with congestive heart failure and has pills that make him drink so of course he has to pee more and we have coyotes so I can't just let him out on his own and then he takes his time when he's meandering around so it's usually 4 to 4.30am before I get back to bed, sometimes I can get back to sleep but mostly it takes me an hour or so, so my body is totally out of whack.

Karen. . .sorry to hear about your problems with Fitbit. My original Fitbit Charge is falling apart. I bought it last July and gave to my dd when I got HR. It's under their 1 year warranty as well as an extended warranty through Sams. I have to contact Fitbit soon, but if they don't respond with a new replacement I guess I'll wait until July when extended warranty kicks in and get them to pay for it. I still love Fitbit though and can't wait until 3/15 when I get my new Blaze.

At the gym feeding my Fitbit after another 10.5 HR day. One more project to finish this week and then I get a break.

Catching up after an unplanned hiatus thanks to my dog accidentally chewing thru the Fios/internet cable. Luckily she is really cute and looked appropriately remorseful....LOL Amazing how out of touch I felt without phone, internet or tv services!

I am now caught up on current events and exercise posts so all is well. Hoping Cheryl' s knee is healing and Ruth is feeling better!

I have been keeping up with exercising despite crazy work schedules, crappy weather and a death in the family. Just need to get back to healthier eating habits.

Exercise so far this week has been bootcamp yesterday and 1 hour walking on the treadmill tonight.

    Poor puppy & poor Cheryl!

I totally love my Fitbit Charge, but do not love the fact that the plastic coating is peeling away from the band.

Odie, it sounds like it has been crazy there!

I am feeling better (although I broke down & took a cold pill as it is hard to do stuff with Kleenex stuffed up your nose!!). After walking, I did a bunch of errands, some light cleaning (I host my Book Club tomorrow night), Zumba & yoga. Yes, I am going to bed at 9:00!!!

Hi all! I am trying to get into the exercise classes offered here in The Villages but keep having house guests. Not a good excuse, I know. Also still finding more tubs of stuff to go through. And, exercise classes are held here in recreation centers which can be anywhere. I think they try to hide some of them so new people, like me, get lost! I keep calling Patoo to redirect me!! This is a big place. However, I did try Zumba, and really liked it - going again tomorrow. Did a beginning line dance class today. I hope, in time, I will find my way around better!

Anyone have a Garmin or Jawbone tracker. Thinking of getting something other than a Fitbit because of the poor customer service. Just annoyed but don't want to do something stupid. A few friends have a Garmin VivoFit and really like it. I can get it on Amazon for 53 - 63 depending on the color. It is the older model (the 2 is the newer one and around 90) but then again the Flex is an older model.

Struggling with getting up in the morning....staying in bed till the last possible moment...like 6 AM instead of 5:15 or 5:30...today since I didn't have to leave till 7:30 I still got a nice walk before work, but when I have to leave at 7, getting up at 6 isn't enough time to walk.

The weather is spring like in Denver, its cool in the morning but getting warm during the day... today was in the high 60's tomorrow will be windy but close to 70. AT 10:20pm its 46 degrees. This time of year, normal is in the 40's during the day!!

Wonderland did you get any of that awful weather in NC?

If it were me, I might say something mean like "visiting the in-laws" Winking.

I am up early to make a pie ( don't be too impressed, it's not a 'real' on; , just one with cream cheese, cool whip etc. that needs to set up in the fridge), then I'll go to Cardio Sculpt, sub this afternoon, & host my Book Club tonight. Busy!

Cute picture Ruth. Cheryl - is the dog on Lasix? Mikey is stable on his current meds, but the vet cardiologist has said that Lasix will be the next step. Hope your knee is better. Odie - bad puppy!!!!! SoCal - looks like a fun way to get your steps in!

Made it to yin yoga class last night for the first time in months - it's a 90 minute class so it's a good workout. Feeling it today, but in a good way. There's a 5 mile race this Sunday we're trying to talk ourselves into doing. We've done it before and it's a pretty race along country roads, but I just need to get the ambition to get up out in time for an 8am start time. Maybe now that I've posted it here I'll have to go

Yesterday did 4-mile walk with Leslie Sansone and in afternoon did 2-hour line dance class (same one as mysunshine).

This morning did bone builders (80 min) class. Getting ready go out for half hour walk waiting for sister to return from Tai Chi class.

mysunshine, you've only been here a few weeks. Took me 2-3 months to stop getting lost.

    HI to all!

Hi, everybody, it has been 23 days since my breast cancer surgery and oncoplasty with breast reduction and lift and some flap surgery. I am incredibly fortunate in that the incisions seem to be healing well, and I haven't seen any problems with the tissue the doctor moved around in my breast. The recovery period is six to eight weeks. I finally got out today and walked one-half mile around our loop. I was tired when I got back. I am having trouble figuring out how to walk! I was pulled down by the heavy breasts for many years. After I finish healing, one of my doctors may send me to outpatient rehabilitation. I plan to work my way up to vigorous exercise but it may not be as exciting as what some of you are doing. I can get my vicarious thrills by reading your posts, lol.

The PS forbade me to do housework or to bend over and pick up things off the floor for 30 days. In seven days, I can resume some housework. Believe it or not, I am looking forward to resuming some daily activities.

I am supposed to see an MO at the end of March about going on AI drugs. We'll see if I can tolerate them better than the Tamoxifen. The Tamoxifen may have shrunk the DCIS tumor down to nothing as my path report was negative. No rads for me!!

My mother who has Stage IV cancer is in an acute care facility. She lost her lung function, but the doctors don't know why. She is showing some rapid improvement and requiring less oxygen but probably won't be able to resume chemo. I am gearing up to face some challenges but often it is hard to anticipate what will really happen.

SoCal, I would guess the San Diego Zoo. I love that place!

I went to another Zumba class this morning, and did not get lost! :). Took my daughter who is visiting for a few days.

I need to figure out how to ride my bike on the golf cart roads and learn how to change sides of streets without crossing the street! I know that sounds crazy, but there are golf cart roads on one side of the street, then, all at once, they are on the other side! Now, you do not see any golf carts crossing the road. So, Patoo has said there are underground tunnels, so I will just have to get out and try this! If I do not post for the next week, please call The Villages and ask someone to come find a blonde (well, gray right now) with very short hair (thanks to chemo) because I will be lost in the underground!
