I saw this yesterday, and all I could think was, THANK YOU, Holley Kitchen, for your immense contribution to mbc awareness! We are finally being heard, but we all need to keep pushing every day for less pink funding and more Stage IV research!!! I feel very hopeful seeing this and other recent research news.

"the number of women dying from metastatic breast cancer has remained steady at about 40,000 annually since the 1970s." I take issue with this statement in the article. The population of the US in 1975 was 216 million and the population today 2015 is 321 million. Yet annual deaths are at 40,000 per year unchanged. I haven't done the math but it looks like things have gotten better based on population not stayed the same.

Wife NED for her aggressive ER+ BC and triple negative metaplastic in lymphnodes. AC an rads did the trick.

I am glad the word is getting out. I'm glad there was a big response from the metastatic community when the request for data was sent out. I believe social media helped, and most certainly here at bc.org. One of our members, Nel, posted information on how to submit data. We have at one time counted almost 350 women on this forum as being diagnosed with stage iv/metastatic bc. I am sure many of them here filled out the forms. I am also thankful for Metavivor and the work they are doing to get our voices heard. I am hopeful that the tide is turning, turning, turning on this in our favor

Mike, you are right regarding population increase when comparing the 40,000 women dying each year from bc. I'm not sure why media reports often try to claim that not much has changed in bc deaths in all these years. It's as tho the reporters and journalists have limited critical thinking skills, or do no thorough investigating into the facts. Last year, I wrote a letter to the editor of my local newspaper during October about bc facts and did my best to be accurate with the information I shared. And that was just a local effort. With something printed in the wsj, we expect better reporting.

I would prefer accurate facts and figures and not trumped up statistics in an effort to gain more funding and research for mbc. It is still enough that 40,000 women die each year of bc. It is the second leading cause of death in women in the US. I also believe it makes sense that 30 percent of funding should go towards mbc research since it is estimated that 30 percent of women diagnosed with bc eventually progress to mbc. Curing mbc, finding better treatments for it seem like a win for all.

Glad to read the good news regarding your wife's Ned status

Can someone with better computer acumen than me post this over at the Stage iv forum? Certainly if we can encourage women to send their tumors over as requested the research will hopefully advance. My mom died of bc three years ago. Does anyone know if her tumor samples are stored by her hospital? Thank you.

mkkjd, information regarding signing up for this project and a link to the questionnaire was posted in a thread on the stage iv/metastatic bc forum on October 31, 2015 by bco.org member Nel:
