Does anyone know which is better Dim or Brevail. I am taking both right now and wondering If I am taking to much. I am having worse menopause symptoms now that when I went through it 10 years ago. Tiredness, depression, night sweats, mood swings, leg aches. Wondering If I should take one ore the other.

A short version of both based I what I know about each.

DIM is an estrogen modulator. It is said to help promote proper metabolism of estrogen, through good (as opposed to bad pathways) and allow for proper excretion of estrogen. The active ingredients are those found in broccoli, cabbage, brussels sprouts, etc that are believed to help prevent breast cancers. Taking DIM is sort of like eating a boatload of these veggies daily. The University of AZ currently has a study ongoing to try to determine if DIM added to tamoxifen is beneficial for BC survivors, indicating to me that it is thought to be safe (of they wouldn't be using it in this study) for BC survivors and may indeed be beneficial.

Brevail's active ingredient is lignans, as are found in flaxseeds as well as various other food sources. Lignans are thought to work in much the same way as tamoxifen, by occupying estrogen receptors.

I take 2-3 Tbsp of ground flaxseeds daily for the lignans, but do take Brevail instead when traveling (flaxseed must be kept refrigerated making it a pain to travel with). Several small studies have shown the benefits of flaxseed/lignans in preventing the breast cancers. Flaxseeds also help keep me regular, so I do prefer them to Brevail for daily use.

I've been taking both of these for quite some time, wouldn't go without either, as they work in different ways and feel I fine.

After a diagnosis of BC it becomes really difficult to tell what is making us feel bad, our treatments and prescription meds, the stress, and/or supplements. You can always stop one or the other and see if it does anything for you. The supplement I found that made me feel almost immediately better when I started taking it was a good probiotic, that and regular exercise and meditation seemed to help most with a lot of the problems I had post diagnosis and active treatment .
