Anemia and Recurrence

Options

Hi,

In doing some research, I came across this study http://bmccancer.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/1471-2407-14-844

which is reporting a higher recurrence rate and less positive prognosis for breast cancer patients with preoperative anemia.

This was concerning to me since I had never heard of this connection before. I had unexplained anemia (iron stores were fine, but hemoglobin was in the anemic range) for several years leading up to the detection of my breast cancer and BMX.

Have you ever heard of this or have you been told by your doctor that pre-operative anemia increased your risk of recurrence?

Interesting study. I was anemic for 2 years leading up to my diagnosis. Almost has to delay surgery due to low hemoglobin.

Very interesting. I am also anemic. Have been since my pregnancies. Even now it's still low even taking iron supplements and the B vitamins through treatment.

Keep us posted if you find out any thing more.

    Thanks for sharing. :-
