Does lymphedema cause numbness? My upper arm on my affected side has gone numb in about a 2 inch area. I also have burning and tingling in the upper arm. It's only present in between my elbow and shoulder. I have no swelling, warmth or feeling of tightness.

I have an appointment with my PCP and I'm thinking it's probably some kind of pinched nerve thing, but I thought it prudent to ask about lymphedema also.

kcat, my arm is numb there too, but has been since my mastectomy.Yes, I think you could be having some slight lymphedema, and it is good to recognize it early. Have you ever been to a Physical Therapist for that side? I really recommend that for anyone, I asked my Plastic Surgeon for a referral to a PT, we have a dept. that is dedicated to LE (lymphedema). I said I was feeling slight LE and wanted to stay ahead of it. She was wonderful, and I learned alot. Even if you really are not experiencing LE, I still think it is beneficial. Hoping you find out soon what is going on, please keep us posted.

Hi Meadow, I've always had some numbness on my arm since surgery too. But that numb part is towards the back and arm pit. The area on the upper arm is new. I did see a physical therapist who was certified in lymphedema but that was maybe 1.5 years ago, not too long after my second surgery. She was great, I was dealing with cording and the therapist got that worked out plus evaluated me for signs of lymphedema. I wish I could go back to that therapist but she's out of network for me now. I saw my PCP yesterday and he thinks it's probably just more fun related to the mastectomies and reconstruction. So I got a referral to another physical therapist. Hopefully that will get rid of the burning/tingling/shooting pain. I can deal with the additional numbness, it's the pinging pain that drives me bonkers! Thanks for responding!
