I just found out today that the cancer I have is chemo resistant. The lump actually grew from 4cm x 5cm to 7cm x6cm AFTER 7 sessions of chemo. Is there anyone else who has noticed the same thing? Any advice and stuff is welcome.

I have also experienced chemo-resistant TNBC. I had 6 treatments of TAC, to be surprised at surgery about the extent of tumor and number of nodes involved. Then I was placed on weekly taxol/carbo post surgery, which was stopped after 11 treatments because PET showed no shrinkage and slight progression. Fortunately, through all of this, the cancer remained contained to the breast area/local nodes. I'm getting hit hard with radiation now, which I'm told is the powerhouse to get rid of it. I've recently had a long discussion with my oncologist about next steps after radiation due to high risk of recurrence. I encourage you to research and/or ask your oncologist about clinical trials.

Thanks I just had a mastectomy (like 2 days ago) to remove the lump and the affected nodes. I'll also be receiving radio therapy once the tissue has healed from the surgery. Every thing is a bit sensitive right now.

My biggest worry, was : "Does Chemo resistance automatically mean metastatic cancer?" My oncologist told me it's hard to say at this point, as they need to analyse the tumour first. Fingers crossed, that is not the case. Did your oncologist say anything on above question or give you any reading material?

    Kind Regards
    S

Sharazhad, how are you doing now? Is your recovery from surgery going well? I am experiencing a chemo failure (FEC) now and looking for the next steps with my doctors, it's very discouraging. If you've learned anything about trials etc. let me know!

Hello girls, my wife is going through the same thing right now. the cancer has been resistant to Pac, AC and Cisplatin/Gemcitabine. Getting ready to start pre surgery radiation if the next scan does not show any reduction. Ya, we know what your going through.....it's rotten. But radiation is supposed to work well. Also looking at starting Vit C and Mistletoe treatments as well....will let you all know how it goes ....

TNBCDad, I have heard from several people who had not-great responses to chemo, then did rads before surgery, then were fine and that was like 6 or 7 years ago for at least two of them and 4 years for another so apparently the pre-surgery radiation can be very successful. I hope it is for your wife, best wishes to both of you!

hello all. Quick update...This week has been tough to say the least-had the single mastectomy and it's been emotionally tough on a personal level and family wise too since I can't help with the kids. . The Oncologist called today. They were able to get negative margins but only by one mm on one side. She got me the last spot in the cisplatin clinical trial, so i will start rads and chemo (again!) in 4-5 weeks. Chemo will be weekly thru the entire radiation. its hard because I won't know if I respond well to the display in because the tumor is now out (it was 3.2 cm after all that act chemo!). It's worth it, right? Anything more we can do to fight off it coming back is worth it? I'm just so tired...

Ag23, It's worth it!!!! You will be tired for a while for sure and it's easy to question things when they are tough but you will come out on the other end of it and be so happy you put up with it because you've got so much to look forward to!
