    Humm, aren't Phase I trials usually reserved for those who are seriously ill and have few other options? This sounds like something that is a preventive.

    I wonder who they will test it on. It sounds very promising.

    I see that you are in the UK. FORCE: Facing Our Risk of Cancer Empowered is an organization devoted to hereditary breast and ovarian cancer. Our Joining FORCEs Newsletter had an article on PARP inhibitors for BRCA carriers. As a BRCA 2 mutation carrier and a breast cancer survivor, and an advocate for the high-risk community I find this the most exciting development in research for our community. Andrew Tutt, one of the researchers for the PARP inhibitor study in the UK spoke at the FORCE National Conference which was February 10-11 of this year. You can view a free webcast of the conference which includes Dr. Tutt's presentation on PARP.

    It is my understanding that currently the Phase I trial is already opened to women with stage 4 breast cancer (that's usually who they offer phase I studies to). However, it is also my understanding that they are hoping to open up phase III trials in the US next year which may be offered to women with earlier stage breast and ovarian cancer who carry BRCA mutations (but I'm not certain of the eligibility at this time).

    The Joining FORCEs 2007 conference will take place May 18-19 in Tampa, Fl. The conference is focused on topics of interest to those with BRCA mutation and there will be a session with updates on PARP Inhibitors at the conference.

    This sounds exciting indeed. As I have BrCA2+ mutation I will be looking at this further.
