Evista

Picked up my Evista script today . I'm just going to look at it for awhile . I don't want to take it but I feel like I should
-
Try taking it at night, that way if you have any SEs, you will be asleep (at least for about 8 hours anyway!). That's what I do with new meds, unless specifically told to take during the day. It doesn't matter with Evista, you can take it night or day,( just once every 24 hour period of time). It really has a good track record, it is generally well tolerated by most people. Hope all goes well.

Not to confuse things, but I was told to take the Evista in the morning, as it may cause/exacerbate insomnia. I don't know if you have sleeping issues, but something to consider. I've been taking it for just over a year now and doing fine. Like you, I had a lot of trepidation about possible side effects, but I'm really glad I gave it a try
-
thanks so much. I have heard about constipation as a problem with this... True for you
-
Thanks for your post. I haven't gotten myself to be able to call formy script yet - not sure why but I keep putting it off. Did you have to have a liver profile done? My oncologist always does a liver profile before starting evista. I'm 62 and my lifetime risk is 15%.
-
well in my case, because I
Am a type 1 diabetic on top of it all , I have liver enzymes and function tests every six months so o wasn't suggested to do anything else . So far I'm just looking at the bottle
I'm also your age but my risk seems to be higher. ADH
-
But you at least have the bottle to look at - I can't even get myself to get the bottle. Blessings to you.

I've never had any issues with constipation or insomnia with evista. They used to check my LFTs with tamox, but not with evista, said it was not necessary.

Hi everyone I have the same problem with tomaxifen I know it's a totally different med but for the same cause and I belong on a different forum but I saw familiar names and thought I'd share.
I have the bottle of tomaxifen for 2 months now and I can't bring myself to taking the first pill. Something is telling me to give it a try and I think I'm going to after the holidays. There I go again putting it of. But seriously I think I'll start in Jan. I was hoping for menopause I'm 49 but no such luck. I read Evista is much less se's than tomaxifen by far.

Hi everyone - I had my annual GYN appt this week, and I was able to talk to her about my genetic test results, my risk, and told her my oncologist offered me evista. My risk is 15% lifetime and they compare it to 8.6% lifetime risk for an average woman my age - so my risk is double. Right now I am being followed every 6 months for 2 years for birads 3 calcifications. I told her that I am struggling with medical anxiety and that because I don't have cancer or pre-cancer, seeing an oncologist is adding to my anxiety. Plus I'm not even sure why I am seeing an oncologist when I don't have cancer or pre-cancer. I asked her if she could prescribe evista and she said yes - pending my lab work results. She ordered a liver profile, comprehensive metabolic profile, cholesterol, and vitamin D. It seems like some doctors order liver profiles and some don't.
-
My labs are all back. I've been cleared to start Evista, and have picked it up from the drug store. Any suggestions about best time to take it - morning or night? Also wondering how everyone is doing with it. My next 6 month mammogramfollow up is the end of this month. Thanks very much.

I take it with breakfast since one of the potential side effects can be insomnia. I have been taking it for 15 months now with no problems except for hot flashes, but I already had those before. The first 3-4 days ibegan I had some nausea for a few hours each morning, but that quickly resolved. No difficulties now.
