    Loverly, if she is a herding breed, ivermectin can build up and become toxic. Can you change it?

    I know..... sometimes we just gotta DO it....Ha! 81 degrees..... Isn't it funny how the weather is sooooo different in other parts of the country?

    The sun is trying to come out.... DH has most of the snow moved around.... I'm sorting papers out, and organizing the upstairs.... It's now 31 degrees.... time for a chocolate coke!

    Exceed has better reviews compared to Nature's Domain. We will see how she does. Your dogs' poops are not stink?? What do you feed them? Heaven dog food? Haha! Darn, I was just at the store trying to find something topical to help her with her dry/itchy spots. Saw Pro-biotic caps and was contemplating whether to get it. She is loosing hair wherever the red spots are. Some of the red spots have clear yellow pustules kind of look like poison ivy rash. I don't believe her skin condition is caused by excessive bathing. Something is going on in her system. She had already had dandruff and obvious red spots on her belly when she came to us. I think part of the reason she smells is because of her skin.

    Study from U Washington (state), about 25 years ago. Other studies confirmed this.

    Has vet done skin scrape? Mange can stink.

    No skin scrape. Mange and walking dandruffs are on the list to rule out (sigh). I was able to get rid of some spots with topical steroid ointment and Tripple antibiotics, so thought maybe she has allergies. I was told she is allergic to corn. Looks like she needs another trip to the vet. Anyway....you leave Mr. Eeyore alone. Some people have lower temp intolerance

    A lot of dogs have grain allergies, judging from the foods in the pet stores. A Westie at dog park is allergic to chicken.

    I have Ava on a grain free diet. She does better on it. She has "normal" smelling poops,, not particularly foul,, just poop.

    You might look for Vetericyn wound and skin care spray. Works well on hot spots. You may have to go to a feed store, or farm supply store to find it.

    Hey gals.... I found it at Super Walmart! Just wear gloves when using it.... I became really allergic to the ingredients in the med.... Mercaptobenso-something..... It helped Lacee a "little"..... She had hot-spots all the time.... I tried different food.... but the med DID help a little.

    Miss Sassypants: Grieving, for WHATEVER reason, takes as long as it takes, and appears when it needs to appear. Ain't no timeline for that. Big honkin' hugs.

    PattyPeppermint – are you on Pinterest? Go to the search bar and type in "recipes venison tenderloin" (or whatever you want) – and you will get a gazillion results. Also – if your DH brings home lots of meat, you should get a Foodsaver – it's a vacuum sealer that sucks all the air out of the bag around the meat, then seals it, then you freeze it. We have saved SO much money by not throwing out leftovers through the years. We freeze everything and it keeps fresh forever.

    DH had his first Rituxan infusion Friday. Thank you, Lord, for answered prayers! It was given in the Chemo Infusion Room in Oncology, and those nurses are the best! After premedicating with two Benadryl, a Tylenol, a sack of saline, and a slug of SoluMedrol, they hooked up the Rituxan….. and watched. Other than feeling drowsy from the Benadryl, he had NO reactions whatsoever. So they started at a 50 mg drip, and increased it by 50 mg every half hour. By 2:15 his bag was empty, and they flushed his veins with (what he said was ice-cold) saline, and home we went. No delayed reactions, either! Just a very tired butt from sitting so long.

    This is a monoclonal antibody drug that is given mostly to patients with blood cancers: lymphoma and leukemia. It is commonly used off-label for autoimmune disorders like MS, Lupus, and Rheumatoid Arthritis, often in conjunction with Methotrexate.

    Current research is showing that most autoimmune diseases cause scarring in the body, and that's what his kidney disease does – creates scarring in the kidney tissue. We are excited and hopeful, but won't know probably for months. He has three more infusions to go – one a week. This might just buy us a few more good years before dialysis or transplant. Or maybe we'll just get our miracle healing!

    It was nice to take a little break Friday, and wander around the Oncology department saying hi to all the staff I remember from so long ago. I will be five years out in September (dx) and December (sx).

    Anyway, this weekend, he did develop some alarming chest congestion that the Nephrologist thought might be pleural effusion, and some quick texting to the docs got him a chest Xray (negative) and a Z pack, since he has no immune system. We live like Howard Hughes here, total germophobes.

    Other than that, life is good.

    Loverly, my sister's previous dog had a skin allergy to some weed that was common around here. He used to take some kind of medication for it, although I don't know what it was or what weed he was allergic to.

    Blessings, oh, so it was your husband who had the treatment this past Friday. I thought someone was having the infusion or some sort of treatment last week, but could not remember. Hoping for similar good outcome with the next three treatments.

    Cubbie, I keep Mitzy off of the grass most of the time. When I take her for walks, she stays exclusively on the pavement. Don't like to clean mud off of her paws. I know, I know I am anal

    Loveroflife - Have you ever heard of Dr. Karen Becker? She is a holistic integrative medicine veterinarian in Chicago that posts articles @ healthypets.mercola.com

    She has many articles dealing with skin issues of dogs. One I have saved is about how using Manuka Honey (a fresh raw honey, totally unprocessed) can heal skin

    infections and open wounds on animals & humans. Maybe you'll be able to find some help there.

    Lover you got me wondering. Wikipedia offers 2 theories:

    Its common name is popularly thought to derive from the crest of long quill-like feathers lending the bird the appearance of a secretary with quill pens tucked behind their ear.

    A more recent hypothesis is that "secretary" is a French corruption of the Arabic saqr-et-tair or "hunter-bird"

    Woke up this morning and I was so happy the pain from the ear infection has lessened and that I was able to enjoy my coffee without too much pain.

    Good for you Mom2~ I remember the WORST ear-aches when I was little! I had an infection one time, that I didn't know about, until I woke up one morning and my ear was bleeding... I had a perforated ear-drum.... I remember sitting on my porch, holding a hot-water bottle on my ear.... so much pain!

    THAT and a dry-socket are the worst!

    Had the surprise of my life last night when I found out a second cousin of mine knows a friend of mine from high school on FB! Funniest thing about this was it was my friend's birthday and when I sent him birthday greetings, my second cousin asked me how I knew our mutual friend and I told him that we had gone to the same high school. So then my friend asked me how I knew his friend (my second cousin) and I explained that his friend's mom was my cousin. They were amazed at what a coincidence it was that we all knew each other!

    Dr Becker is also doing some great work on over vaccination in dogs. Recommends tittering for most, and rabies weight adjusted dose.

    old truck of dh. Sold long time ago. Ds2 is in pic. The attitude he wss showing is still tge same. Lol. The name tag was nearly bigger then him. This was on a 5 hour one way trip dh took both dss for the weekend. We used to have s '67 chevy wagon. Was my favorite because it didn't have a shiny paint job and was a work in progress on the inside. I didn't worry about boys climbing over seats or scratching something . I'll have to find a pic of that one.

    Chevy. - 12' of snow oh my !!!! Pretty pics to LOOK at but you can keep the snow. Yes my dh is awesome. I should have mentioned he didn't do it completely alone. There was a long caravan of friends going. So several men jumped right in to help entertain them and buy them tiny trinkets at each stop ( kept dh busy keeping up with all their toys )_ also they kept dss loaded up on sodas and junk food ( dh said major sugar rush ,,) so maybe e would have been better off without man friends help. They didn't do diaper changing. Lol. What did your dd think when you pulled up to her school in tat car with the hood flying off: embarrassed or impressed ?

    My neighbor just texted me and said her cuz lives 2 roads over and there is s man outside shooting up the neighborhood. Oh my ! Very very rarely do we have crime like that. So I got my gun ready. I usually always have it within handreach within a couple steps, unless dh is home then its up to him to protect us. My neighbor is dying because her liver is failing. She took tx for hepatitis and I guess it killed her liver. Her cheating live in bofriend gave itt her and then split. She only has 1 son whom she is estranged from. She also has a sis that lives on our road but she isn't much help. I feel so sorry for her. And I thought I had it hard . she also had to file bankruptcy since she can't work and waiting on ss to start. They are coming to repo her mobile home so she bought a small camper and put it on her land. She is gonna have to live there. So sad. I've known her along time and she has been a very hard worker only to end like this: broke and alone. Boo.

    I don't think anybody witnessed that cute little wild ride! At least I remember being so mad I could have shot him on sight! I went home, and don't remember anything after that... I don't know if the girls even knew what happened.

    They hated when we drove with him.... at least when he was drunk. There wasn't anybody in the school yard either... Thank God!

    Sorry about the shooting.... so many crazy people around! AND your Neighbor! So many things happen to some of us.... unbelievable!
