DCIS grade 3 with necrosis

That is all for now. I have the pathology report but I think I'll go throw up first.

    Hi Sarasmiles,

I just wanted to give you a hug and tell you I am sorry for your diagnosis. It is such a shock in the beginning but once you have a treatment plan in place it does get better.

    Sara,

We're so sorry to hear this... We know it's overwelming and upsetting -- but DCIS is extremely treatable!

We're sure you'll get lots of support here -- but you may also want to join the DCIS forum to connect with others with a similar diagnosis.

Also, you may want to check out the main Breastcancer.org site's section on DCIS for all the ins and outs of a diagnosis like this. The Your Diagnosis section as well is a very helpful tool to help walk you through what each piece of your pathology report means, as you receive the info.

We're all here for you, and we'll help you through! Please come back often and post questions, vent away, or share your experiences. We know you'll continue to find BCO a tremendous resource.

    Thinking of you!

oh sara...I have been lurking waiting for you to get your results. I too had microcalcifications and a birads4. I was hoping for a better outcome for you, but I'm so glad you found us. This is the hardest part...you know you have cancer but no treatment plan yet. I promise it will get better when you have your treatment plan in place. Feel free to PM me.

Wrapping my arms around you virtually..

Sorry you got bad news, Sara. Maybe you'll feel better after you throw up (I jest--go lay down with an ice pack on your head and a mojito in your hand.)

Just to encourage you, my sister was diagnosed with DCIS, grade 3 necrosis 3 years ago. She has done very well. I hope you do to.

Here's the quote I live by: "If you're going through hell, keep going." Winston Churchill. You can do this.

    Hi Sarasmiles:

You made me laugh against my will. I am sorry about your diagnosis. I agree with Tresjoli2.

When you are ready for the pathology report, this is a useful pamphlet. Note that not all tests are appropriate for all conditions, and some are only done (if indicated) after the full surgical pathology is available. For example, ER and PR status are routinely assessed for DCIS, while HER2 status is not.

I found this page with illustrations (scroll down on the page to relevant figures) to be helpful for understanding the terms that describe the appearance of the cells in the duct, such as "cribiform", "solid", and "comedo necrosis".

I'm sorry to hear about your results. I just got diagnosed a few days ago as well, though mine is a bit worse. It sucks but I got my treatment plan this morning and that takes away quite a bit of the stress.
