Let's Post our Daily Exercise

Just another reminder to start thinking about our exercise thread's 2016 Road Trip to San Antonio October 21-27. Badger's mom has a time share at the Wyndham Resorts which she very generously lets us use, so if you come your lodging will be free (although you have to be flexible about sharing a room etc. depending on how many people show up!). I will put another reminder out in March & maybe by Apri/May (or whenever they have theater schedules etc out), it would be good to get things set in stone. Even if you can only come for part of the time, we would love for you to join us!

Over slept this morning...went back to sleep for 5 minutes and 1/2 hour later its 5:45!!! late since I knew I needed to shovel the driveway and leave on time for a 7:30 meeting. What a relief to find out when I picked up my cell phone before heading out to shovel that I had a snow day...NO SCHOOL!! Its now 7:20 and I haven't ventured out yet!! I told my daughter at 6 that she had a snow day and she was thrilled at keep sleeping!!!
We got about 8 inches of snow....Going to head out shortly to shovel the driveway then will walk a bit later,...will still manage to get my steps in. It is a treat to not walk in the dark!
Stay warm and have a great day.
-
Thank goodness the snow is being pushed south of us by our COLD air! I am going to my Cardio Sculpt class in a few minutes and will have to choose between going to Barre or a basketball game tonight. Decisions! Decisions!
-
hi all and welcome Jena. We may get a foot of snow so took a day off work. Good time to catch up here. Been walking with a buddy at work on am/pm breaks. She likes to walk FAST so it's a good push. Purchased a Leslie Sansone DVD, Walk to the Hits, for something to do of an evening other than surf the couch.
Cheryl, thought of you the other day, saw a t-shirt emblazoned with The Gym Is My Happy Place.
Ruth, welcome home, 3 million steps last year WOW! I'm sending you that Zumba DVD set.
RE: San Antonio, we have two suites and can legally sleep up to 12 so there's room, think about it!

Back from a wonderful 2 weeks in the Caribbean - the first week we were on a sailing ship visiting some of the French islands, then the second week we spent in St. Lucia. We got out just in time and were happily sitting on a warm sunny beach as Snowzilla occurred, dropping about 30 inches of snow at home. Talk about good timing!!
We swam, snorkeled, took volcano sulfur mud baths, ate fabulous local foods, bathed in sulfur hot springs, drank rum punch, swam in waterfall pools, visited old French and British forts from the 1700's, checked out small island towns, and the biggest activity of all, climbed one of the Pitons on St. Lucia. That climb was about the most grueling 6 hours I ever spent in my life, but the view at the top was spectacular!! (Most people do it in around 4 hours, but most people who tackle the climb are half my age with waaay longer legs!).
Here's the ship we were on - the Vela. We had 18 passengers - mostly Americans, but we also had some Brits and a couple of Canadians, so that made it fun. The Vela is a true sailing ship, and we were under full sail a lot of the time. The Captain and crew were fabulous and took fantastic care of us.
I've got pages and pages to catch up on here! Can't wait read all the news, but I'm in for San Antonio!!
-
Mary sounds like you had a wonderful time, and missing out on snowzilla was an added bonus. Karen I think we sent you the weather, we had two days of absolutely hellacious winds, now it's supposed to heat up, it's crazy.
Badger I am in for San Antonio too, I'm dog sitting later this month so I'm putting that money away for my air fare.
Did Body Jam last night, forgot to wear my Fitbit yesterday but put it on before heading to the gym and got 8000 steps between 6 and 9pm -
Just caught up on back pages - a few notes.
First, Lilac, belated congrats on your certification, and with disctinction, no less. It's been a privilege watching you make this journey for the past year. And I agree absolutely that exercise should be an integral part of cancer care, just as it is for cardiac rehab. And I know you'll be out there pushing for it. BTW, two of the Brits on the sailing ship were from Bath - I thought of you!
Patoo - funny on you thinking the rooms are small as your house is under construction. We had the same thing when we built our cabin - when they poured the slab it seemed so tiny, then when they framed the exterior, it looked OK. Then they framed in the individual rooms, and it got so tiny again. But once it was done it was perfect.
Ivy and Jena - welcome. Jena - a tip about pre-DIEP prep - concentrate on core and legs, as your upper body will not be useful for quite a while. One quick thing you can do now is practice getting off a chair or sofa without using your arms - you'll find that's a very useful skill to have! If you're going to sleep on a recliner after surgery, practice now how to close it without using the little arm lever - it takes a bit of work, but if you hook your heels on the edge of the foot area just right, you can close it and get up without using your arms. Crunches, squats, and lunges will also help build those cure and leg muscles.
Decision - congrats on completing the surgery. As one who went from DD to B via DIEP, your PS is right - once you heal, an off-the-shelf sports bra will fit you perfectly. I know exactly what you mean about not being able to exercise with DD's - I didn't take up running till after my DIEP. Pre-DIEP there was no way I could run down the street without making a bouncing spectacle of myself. But for now take it easy - walking is great, but don't over do other stuff till your surgeon gives you the all clear.
Mysunshine - congrats on the move and good luck getting settled.
Ruth - your vacation in Arizona looked wonderful. What spectacular hiking!
Badger - LOL on the plumber. Glad he finally got there.
Bad - sounds like you've made great progress already. Of course steak is an excellent motivator to figuring out how to cut it.
Getting back into regular exercise after vacation - 30 minute run on the dreadmill this morning - too wet with icy patches to even think about running outside for a while.
-
Bad at. . .way to go on your attitude as you recover from surgery.
Nats. . .what a beautiful ship. I would like to go back to Tahiti or go to Figi on a ship like that. Spent my honeymoon in Tahiti and we'll life etc has happened in the past 23 years.
Got up at 4:30 this morning for ds's day surgery. All went well but I'm exhausted and spending several hours of my sick day on work I brought home. I am resigned to the long hours for the next two months and then hopefully things will settle down.
At the gym feeding the Fitbit as I now live for exercise thanks to ILC and all of you inspiring ladies.

Hi everyone, I'm back after a very long hiatus. All is well, I have just been very busy! During the summer and fall I was rowing two days a week and trying to get in some extra walking and easy yoga. I have been having a lot of trouble with my knee again but started physical therapy a few weeks (myofascial release therapy, it's amazing whole body treatments!), Using my rowing machine now in the winter, and trying to walk more at work. I recently got a promotion so I have been very busy trying to get settled). Good news today....here in Western PA Punxatawny Phil says we can expect an early spring!
Glad to be back with you!

Increased my daily walk from 2.5 to 5 mi today. My neuro told me the absolute best thing I could do for recovery was walk. Plus, I burn off the Dex energy while also burning off the Dex tummy.
(Although my sweet husband, when I told him I wanted to get back to being sexy for him, told me I was still the sexiest woman in the world, regardless of the steroid stomach and moonface. He's a winner.

Managed to get 3 good walks in today in spite of the snow. By late afternoon most people managed to shovel their sidewalks. The city, decided that they would take plows to the neighborhood streets going down the middle once. It really made a difference. This morning when I walked it was easy to walk in the street. We got close to a foot of snow. I enjoyed the extra day and time, but was not productive except for my walks, and cooking dinner. I need to finish a report for work before I go to bed. Watching a show till 9, then its time to get busy. I thought I would bake cookies but that didn't happen!!!
Bad...what a sweet guy!!!
Scottie...how is ds doing?
Nat, your trip sounds amazing. Love the sailing ship. But I'm afraid I would get sea sick!!! I won't go on a cruise for the same reason. I have a friend who went on a cruise and got sea sick!!!
Badger, I'd love to join you in San Antonio, but I can't plan this far in advance. If I do come, it would only be for the week-end as I can't take time off work as I work in the schools. Plus its right after all the fall holidays.
Wishing everyone a good evening and good humpday!! Karen
-
Several pages behind but wanted to check in to let you know that I am still exercising. Life has been very busy lately but promise to get back to checking in for the accountability!
-
Mary, what a fun vacation you had! Beautiful!!
Scottie, hope DS is doing okay.
Welcome back, Martha!
Hi Odie!
What a sweet husband, BAU!
Karen, if you get those cookies made and you have extra, you could send some this way.....just saying
-
Ruth....Generally when I plan to bake cookies it gets done....but lately, I've been more disorganized!!! I usually have cookies in the freezer. I need to bake a couple more batches in the next couple weeks. Seriously, if you send me your address, one day, you'll find a package!! Karen
-
Don't tempt me!!!!
-
welcome back Martha, good to hear from you!
Great pix, Mary, sounds like a wonderful vacation.
We ended up with six inches of snow so in addition to more Pack & Sculpt did a couple hours Shovel & Sculpt yesterday. Back to work today.
-
Badger, where do you live? I'm a native Wisconsinite myself...grew up in Tosa and lived in Madison for two years in my early 20s. Most of my family and friends are still in Milwaukee or Madison. Haven't had a chance to get back in years though...the last time I was supposed to go for a friend's wedding was right when I got my initial Dx. :
-
Hi all, 2 hours Line Dance class and now I'm pooped. Need to get into better shape since mysunshine is now here and will be ready to make me look bad in a couple days!
Mary, nice ship. BAU, DH is a keeper! Karen, don't give ruthbru your address as you may find her on your doorstep (she somehow turns up whereever food is nearby).
Night sculpted friends.
-
Back walking indoors. Scenery not so exciting but the company is good. Zumba and yoga tonight. Triple Exercise Day!
-
Karen . . .DS is doing well. Thanks for asking. He managed to get an extra day off school due to anesthesia fog. We are hoping that we will get some answers for his worsening asthma from the biopsies.
I get seasick as well but have been on 3 cruises where I took prescription motion sickness meds and did quite well. Just a thought.
No exercise today. Worked late, came home and curled up in bed.

BAU I'm in the SW part of WI, in the beautiful Driftless Region. I don't say exactly where on the open board. But I work in Madison and get to Milwaukee from time to time, so please LMK if you ever get back this way!
Three 10-minute walks at work today. SIL is coming this weekend to help me pack and move boxes. They may go into the basement for now but at least there will be less stuff here! DH can wrangle the men with trucks for the big heavy items, once the flooring is in.
'Night all.
-
Been trying to get on to post for over an hour but the site was down for maintenance!! Finally its back up.
Bundled up this morning to walk in 6 degree weather!! Tomorrow morning its supposed to be a whopping 3 degrees!! To be honest, with my snow pants on and walking brisk, I was sweating by the time I got done. Same with tonight. Just shy of my 15K cuz I didn't get out at work today. Might make it if I walk back and forth to the bedroom a couple times.
Today is 10 years since I heard those dreaded words!!!
-
Congratulatory (((hugs))), Karen! That is a big milestone.
Have been under the weather so skipped Zumba and other dancing 3 days in a row. May try to teach some friends salsa this afternoon (just the basic steps, which is all I can do).
-
Karen, congrats on 10 years out!!!
-
Hey all
Just discovered this thread really it's amazing and useful for the one who is keen to know about daily exercises, routine and it's benefits. Good going everyone.
-
Karen - congrats on the 10 years out!!
Welcome, Michael!
BAU - your DH is definitely a keeper!
Scottie - hope you get some answers about DS soon. And apparently those sea sickness patches work well - we had a few people on our ship that used them, and they were fine the whole trip.
Heidi - hope you feel better!
Ruth - that's quite a young retiree in the front left of your group!
Finally got around to using the our community's indoor pool this week. I haven't done lap swimming since college, so it was touch and go for the first few laps trying to get my breathing and stroking in rhythm. But finally some ancient muscle memory kicked in, and I managed get in a dozen or so laps of freestyle without drowning. I'd forgotten how really relaxing and almost zen lap swimming can be. And it was amazing - no one else was doing lap swimming, so DH and I each had a whole lane to ourselves.
-
Mary, one of the ladies brought her '4 year old boss'....her granddaughter who's babysitter had a family emergency.....although it is never too early to become a Walking Woman!
Awesome, Karen, congratualtions!
Welcome, Michael!
Cardio Sculpt for me today.
-
Karen, 10 years - Yay! Michael, welcome. Re Cruises - one tip may help, when booking try to get a cabin as close to center ship as possible, stay away from the cabins on the ends and not too low or high in the ship either as all those are the areas you would most likely feel the movement (though most newer ships these days have great (?) whatever they call the systems which keep them from rocking.)
Snowbirds (those who spend winter in the south) are taking up space in my classes. Got to Walk Away the Pounds 20 mins early and class was already full. I know the Bone Builders class also needs you to get there 30-40 mins early. Cloudy today but will find something else later after helping mysunshine with a project this morning.
Lated sculpted friends.

And, help she did! Patoo came over to my house to, first get a 49" TV out of my car and into the house. Then, we figured out how to put the stand on. But, the BIG thing is that she figured out how to make it work! Hooked up cables, programmed the remote......all the things I was not sure how to do. Patoo is my hero!
That, and more unpacking and picture hanging is my exercise today.

Hello, all. I saw the breast surgeon today in a post op meeting. My path report that looked at the tissue sample from the second lumpectomy and bi-lateral breast reduction and and lift both done on January 26 was completely NEGATIVE. No malignant tissue at all was identified from what I understand. With this report, the radiation oncologist said under no circumstances would she order radiation treatment. It is a medical mystery though there may be at least two reasons why no malignant tissue was found.
The breast surgeon said vigorous exercise every day will lower my breast cancer risk by 30 percent. She asked me to think about AI drugs so I had a DEXA scan today to see if I am a candidate.
Healing will take six to eight weeks though I can start walking soon. I have osteoarthritis in my feet so I will have figure out how much walking I can do and then combine it with other types of exercise. All of you are very inspiring, and I want to inspire you too as time goes on!
