I was diagnosed with a stage 1 bc in 2013. My oncologist recommended that I have an MRI every six months for the first 5 years. My insurance paid for the MRI the first year but they denied me this year. I'm curious if any other stage 1 women have experienced this and how did you proceed? Did you pay for it out of pocket or just not have the MRI?

I get a yearly MRI and so far insurance has approved it. I read on these boards they may have to approved every two years just to check the implant, but I don't know if that is the case. If I get denied I'll probably negotiate a cash price and move on. My onc said yearly MRI through year five, then we could talk about every other year. I honestly don't know how my onc gets them approved but she does for all her mx ladies.

I, too, was diagnosed in 2013 at stage 1. I have had no MRI's since the one before surgery. I had a lumpectomy. Mammograms every six months for the first year, and then annually since then. MO has said he will release me this fall, assuming all remains as is. I would really like to have an MRI to give me peace of mind before being released and "left on my own." He said he will order one if I want it, but insurance will not pay. I'm going to investigate how much it will cost, and then decide what to do.
