Gift for fellow patient?

I have a question ladies....

I would really like to give a small gift to a woman who is going through rads with me. I met her on my first day, when I must have looked nervous and unsure of myself. She took me under her wing, so to speak. Everyday, she talks to me while we wait for our treatments and before I go back for mine, (she goes right after me), she gives me a hug.
She's an older lady, (85), and just the sweetest thing! She comes with her daughter every day and they are both such sweet people.
Next Monday, Feb 1, is her last day of rads. Today she asked me twice if I was going to be there when she rang the bell. I promised her that I would be and she seemed SO excited. Her daughter told me that it would really mean so much to her if I stayed after my treatment to watch her ring the bell. I assured her that I absolutely plan on being there and am so thrilled for her, that she's almost done.

I want to get her something small as a way of saying congrats. Any ideas?

    Hi MDA! It's always difficult to find the right thing. Was wondering, since her daughter brings her to treatment if it would be right to offer her a gift certificate for a nearby brunch or lunch establishment for them both to enjoy together? The only other idea I had was flowers which are always so lovely to receive.

    Not much time to find something. My first 2 thoughts are (if you can find one) a small bell (doesn't have to be exactly the same bell looks wise) or find online a picture of a similar bell online (with a hand on it if possible) and print it off and put in a frame with a personal note on it from you. Do you have a Hobby Lobby or Michael's near you? You might be able to find a small bell charm and bracelet or necklace chain.

    To me as much as I love flowers, I would rather have something that will be with me to see/touch for the good memories. (Yes - finishing TX and from someone who cares IS a good memory. . If you knew that there was a particular type of plant that she loves (ex. I love cactus and bougainvilleas) and can take care of, then a plant might be a good idea as it will continue as opposed to a flower arrangement which would soon be gone.

    I guess in other words - my suggestions are for something tangible that will remain and bring back good feelings of what was thoughtfully given to her by you.

    Hope that gives you some ideas.

    etnasgirl, so thoughtful of you! If the gift is something less permanent, get her a nice card. I save all of my special cards. I guess I'm old school, but I bet she is too!:)

    Amother thought - you could ask her daughter for her Mother's address and send her a little note or card every few weeks that you are thinking of her, with a 'silly little something' you saw/heard, etc. so she knows that she is remembered. For those of us who are older, getting something in the mail we can actually hold in our hands and see, means a lot more than a lot of texts. Though we are thankful to still here in the 'modern' world, this is not the world we grew up with in and 'little things' mean a lot. (Hope that makes sense the way I mean it!)
