LadyHumps, Welcome! You already know all about us and have your profile all public. You're set! Hope you're doing well with your chemo. You have a good weekend, too! My DIL (who did chemo for colon cancer) "told" her chemo at each session to KILL CANCER - and it worked well for her!
HUGS!
-
Thank you MLP3 for your kind words. What kind of spray? I will pick up some and wipes this weekend.
PontiacPegg thank you for your help. I will be happy to have you all along in my pocket.
-
Karen- a feminine deodorant spray. I found an all natural one but even Summer's Eve makes one I think. I just didn't want to use a deodorant stick on that side
-
Welcome LaNena, If you friend one of us on FitBit you will probably find the rest. PM me if you want my name.
justmaximom, my rads tech told me when my skin was getting really red to let someone else do the housework. I am laughed in his face but since I liked him I only laughed on the inside
Do take good care of yourself.
-
ChiSandy - Whenever I have problems with technology, I ask someone under age 20. haha
LaNena - I sent you a PM with my email for FitBit. If you don't know how to add me, you can pm me your email and I'll add you. Also, under my friends group, add Carol, Sally, April, 1Step, Happy Hammer, Rona, Sloan, Jill. Did I forget anyone?
Molly- Is it you who has a co-worker we can add to Fitbit? (You're doing great. Keep talking through it. That's what I had to do when my son has his brain tumor. I think talking about it makes it less and less of a shock when I hear myself say it now. *sigh)
Karen -Welcome. We'll hold some of that stress for you and help you through this. You can do this!
-
MLP3, your pups are adorable! Welcome Krista and ladyhumps. Karen, in your pocket for Monday! I second the idea of button up shirt and also easy to pull up pants for surgery day. Ice is your friend. Have some ice packs on hand for icing your incisions. Krista, it sounds like your anterior margin was not clean. Have you seen your BS for follow up yet? What are Margins in Breast Cancer?
-
Sloan, yes it is my co-worker Lisa you can add. She's the one you all prayed for last week!
-
Thanks to all who replied to my request for joining a Fitbit group. I'm amazed at the support and care of this incredible group of ladies!
(((HUGS))))
-
thanks for your response molly50 I'm just not sure what focally means
-
Krista - not sure what that means, but like Molly said, it sound like the margins weren't clear. A lot of ladies on this site didn't have clean margins. These tests results always give us a "WHAT NOW?" feeling, but we get through it together. Give your doc a call--he/she works for you!
ladyhumps and justmaximom - Welcome. You'll love these ladies!
PFP (Peggy for Prez)
-
I looked it up and focal means minor.
-
Krista, like Sloan said. Give your surgeon a call. It may or may not mean you need re-excision.
-
Okay Fitbitters.... You really do encourage me. I'm in a different Time Zone than most of you, and my Fitbit says, "Challenge Day! You're at 0% and Jill is at 87%." hahaha! So, I walked to do all my errands yesterday out of GUILT and MOTIVATION (two things every good Italian lives by!) Yes, you motivated the crap out of me! Now, here it is the next day and I'm at 3% and Jill is at 129%. LOL Time to get moving.
-
Thanks, Peggy. Chemo has been tolerable so far, some SE but not too bad. Had to delay treatment Wed due to low wbc. Started on neupogen shots and hope to be back in the cancer-killing business next week!
-
Wishing you a surge in your white blood cell count, ladyhumps!
-
Thanks Molly50. I do want to be prepared and have the things I may need on hand. Thank you also for being in my pocket.
-
Karen- I also ordered a few genie bras and they came in two days with express ship. You're in a bra night and day for a week. I did get two fitted at Dana Farber and they gave me a pretty pink one as I headed home after surgery. It had a Velcro front closure and is awesome. Did I ever think that I would say that EVER...?😝
I also wore a comfy flannel shirt home that I went right to bed in. Button down. Slippers too! It wasn't about fashion that day. And the best thing that I wore to the hospital was a knit poncho!! Keit me cozy and when I was ready to leave they slipped it right over my head! And the hospital was so cold too.
And ice ice baby!! I think my diligence with ice packs kept the swelling away.
Ladyhumps- all I can think of is Will Farrell singing "my lovely lady lumps" lol! Here's to a higher wbc so the cancer slaughter can continue👊🏻
Forgot to bring my Fitbit to NH to get set up. Sounds like LTF is doing some serious moving around💃🏻

When I received my first mammo report that mentioned a “focal asymmetry,” the radiologist said “focal” meant it was within a precise and clearly defined area--small and easily discernible. Same thing when Bob got the report of his followup lung CT--the original large 2cm nodule was gone but there was a tiny 2mm spot “focally present” in a different area. “Focal” beats the heck out of “diffuse” or “ill-defined.” If something is present, “focal” is better.
-
Peachy- great post!
MLP3- ummm, those guys look like they NEED a weekend away- glad they can finally relax, haha!
-
Justmaximom- hahaha...too funny. Have you tried cabbage leaves? They really helped me!
-
I will look into the genie bras. So many good suggestions, thank you so much.
-
Karen- also, a very small pillow helped- you can wedge it under the affected breast or use it to sort of "prop" it up for icing and sleeping...You will get through this and crying is often a good thing. Holding back the tears and feelings can be exhausting! Crying can be a relief. I'll be in your pocket as well!
-
I have a Fitbit....never set it up. When I'm stressed or trying to make time pass, like waiting for Oncotype results, I bake. Today was Boston Cream pie. Thankfully, I have people to help me eat it, but I'm thinking the Fitbit might be better for me in the long run. 😉
-
Thanks for cheering on my WBC!! Had my 3rd shot today, trying to give them a good kick-start! Great bunch of cheerleaders here.
Being a side sleeper, when I went to bed I'd put a rolled up sock in my bra between my boobs for a little more support. Helped to keep the incisions from pulling. Just improvising!
Mmmmm, pie!!
-
Karen, I got my Genie bras at RiteAid. Maybe not the cheapest but no shipping and instant gratification
I wore them for quite awhile. Going through rads, I wore nothing 95% of the time. I'm small so that worked just fine.
HUGS!
-
Karen: emotional response is part of the deal. Don't worry about it. Cry, break dishes, scream. Your oncologists will understand! (They better!) So will we. Trust me on this one.
General thought: I confess i'm still bemused about what different oncology teams suggest and what different women have found helpful! I had straight DCIS--sentinel node biopsy was never on the table--and not only did I use my (gasp! shh!) alcohol-based gel deodorant through treatment, I walked out of both lumpectomies wearing the bra I'd walked in wearing. Go figure. But in retrospect, the nice cooshy bra woulda been nice for the first week or so after those surgeries. Certainly I appreciated it after my reduction.
-
Afterthought; PontiacPeggy's got a point about where to get bras. I got mine at Target, but there are several places to look. Any big-box place. Walmart. Meijer, in the Midwest. If someone needs one or two in a hurry, that's where I'd suggest to look.
-
Justmaximom - haha! I remember when I was beginning rads someone further along in treatment talked about going shirtless and spending the day with her hand poised on her hip like a Greek goddess statue to cool the hotspots. That image cracks me up.
-
Cheapest by far, especially if you want more colors and need a larger cup size, are HerRoom.com and FullBeauty.com--front-closing Leading Lady stretch bras are about $25 each (and you get a discount coupon code via e-mail you can apply). They go up to an F/G/H size.
-
The little pad my LE therapist gave me is called a Swell Spot. It comes in several sizes and shapes (from the small oblong one I got all the way up to a hollowed-out large round one to fill in and even out a post-lumpectomy smaller or irregular breast) and is filled with little foam beads. You wear the gray ridged velour side against the skin overnight (you can wear it during the day too but if it’s not covering a sunken area it might create a bulge beneath your clothes). . I stuffed mine into my sleep bra last night, atop my lumpectomy scar and radiation-fibrosed area; the area is considerably softer today. It’ll take awhile to break down the fibrosis as far as it’ll go, and the seroma will still be there, but at least it’s not rock-hard and it feels normal inside my everyday bra....sans pad!
