Bad news today

I was diagnosed with PALB2 and Chek2 mutations back in Sept, so I had my two adult kids tested. They had a 50% chance of having one gene, two genes, or no genes.

Today they got their results. Thankfully my son is negative. Unfortunately, my daughter is positive for both. My DH and I are devastated, as is she. My daughter is only 22! We have a strong family history of breast cancer and other cancers which can be caused by either or both of these gene mutations. I have two aunts who had BC early--one was only 24~! My sister and grandmother also had BC, as did some of grandma's sisters and a brother.

I guess I need to get her in touch with my breast surgeon so they can put a plan together for surveillance. My heart is broken for her. And it doesn't help that she has crappy insurance with a high deductible.

Poodles - I'm so sorry for the terrible news. You must be reeling. Do you know lintrollerderby? She is brca+and they later found out her daughter was as well. She has been incredibly helpful to many and I know she would be happy to talk to you. Take care. One step at a time.

Being a mom is tough no matter what the age our kids are. I feel for you Truly sorry for the news. Its no ones fault but just heartbreaking. I think that it is very important that she has a screening program that can help her feel that she is taking positive action and not overwhelmed. Also I am sure it is tough for you as you have to put on the "Mom Game Face" our kids stress out twice as much if they see that we are stressed out about it.

I worry about my kids and my sisters since I found out about PALB2. My husband also has a Genetic illness that is significant so I am truly hoping we didn't pass either Gene to our kids.
