Hi, I was wondering if anyone has experienced pain in their arm and upper boob/shoulder area after being diagnosed with IDC (3.2cm- that's all they told me) no other information because my doctor hasn't called me back yet. UGH! I hope this is not related to my current situation but am very worried!!

isnogard, first, welcome to Breastcancer.org. We are sorry to hear what you are going through, with a diagnosis of IDC, and additional shoulder area pain. Your shoulder pain could be related to so many things. This is something your doctors should look at though, and help tease apart what is going on. The waiting for the calls is the worst!! Hang in there, vent, and know we are here for you!

I think pain in the "affected area" is normal, there s weird tissue interfering with your normal nerves, so tat causes pain. I hope you get a treatment plan in place soon, the start of this is always the toughest!

I have a consult with the surgeon on Feb 10th. Seems so far away. Hope this thing is not spreading while I wait.

    Hi isnogard!

You'll definitely want to talk with your docs about it, but it could easily be completely unrelated to your diagnosis.

For example, the stress you're under might have you creating stress in the muscles of your shoulders/back. And it can be asymmetrical, if you (for example) habitually carry a bag on the same shoulder. Further, sometimes the "stressed" area is not where you feel the pain--sometimes called "referred pain."

If they tell you it's "unrelated," you might want to ask for a referral to a physical therapist to help you sort out the pain.

    HTH,

Thank you! I just got off the phone with my doctor and she was sure this pain was unrelated but I did learn more about my test results.
