Ruth...gorgeous scenery....looks like a wonderful place to hike!!
-
Scottie-Cleaning a 13 y/o room is definitely considered a workout, especially if the child is in the room. I have a 10 y/o daughter and we have to clean it out often, she seems to be outgrowing everything.
Ruth-It looks beautiful where you are! You must really be enjoying yourself.
Today I went grocery shopping and to the sporting goods store. I am exhausted so I may take the night off from exercise. Tomorrow is another day
-
Great pix, Ruth, and shorts in Jan! Walked my 2.5 mile route this afternoon. 'night all ♥
-
Ruth, wonderful pictures!! Hope everyone is safe out n the east coast! I actually did some shoveling up at Big Bear, Ca, helping friends clear their driveway!! Wow, have not done that for a long time! It was kind of fun!! Ended up having a little snow ball fight!! 😃❄️
-
Kindergarten, it is fun when it's not yours and you don't have to do it every snowfall. Sent text to my former NJ neighbor as we used to meet the morning after and shovel our respective driveways.
Church this morning then walked through houses for sale with a guest from DC (she was really motivated to move here to FL when she saw pictures from DC where she lives! Took her over to a square and walked for a bit. That was the extent of my exercise today. We stopped by mysunshine (Lynn) who was moving into her new house here today. She is getting plenty of exercise directing, organizing, etc.
Night sculpted friends.

1/24- evening warm yoga class for one hour.
Ruth, that place looks awesome for outdoor time!

The weather is Denver was gorgeous today...sunny and in the high 40's. Had a wonderful walk mid day in just a t-shirt and light jacket...once the sun sets it cools off and need a proper coat. Tomorrow its only going to be in the 30's and cloudy, but then it is going to warm back up to the 50's and 60's. Denver has great winter weather!! As long as the sun is out, I don't mind the cold.
I need to get motivated to add some other exercise to my walking....something to burn more calories and flatten the belly!!! Plus need to stop the STRESS eating!!

Thanks so much (((Everyone))) for the congratulations! It was a long, interesting year year and we will see how this year shapes up. There is a movement lead by massive cancer charity here called Macmillan, to get NHS cancer treatment protocol to include cancer exercise specialists working for 12 weeks to get people up and back to life after the physical decimation from active cancer treatment. They presently have that with cardio, for instance if you have a heart bypass, you seamlessly are handed over to a cardio exercise specialist when released from hospital and they come to your home or local council leisure centre to set up a program of returning you to "normal" physical life. The heart is a muscle and it makes perfect sense funding wise. The progress is tracked weekly by the specialist, the recordings also tracked and numbers crunched regularly to make sure that funding via NHS is there for these programs. In the UK, the statistical analysis is that by 2030, 47% (nearly half) of the adult population will have or have had some form of cancer. Macmillan is trying to set in place now what can work best for the general population. The year 2017 is the target year to get NHS funding for cancer exercise specialists and at this moments, pilot cancer exercise specialist programs are being monitored across the country (including Scotland and Wales) funded by Macmillan to achieve this. For now, one can be sent to a GP Exercise Referral, (which I have that qualification as well) and these specialist personal trainers work with medically referred clients in the local council leisure centres and can only work with cancer patients if they have this specialist training. These positions are few and far between particularly now due to deep cuts to funding. On my cancer course, the bulk of the 9 of us, where presently employed GP referrals around Kent, who where funded on the course by Macmillan. So continuing with Pink Ribbon Pilates and a looking for ways and inroads and see what shakes out for this year and 2017.
Off to Pink Ribbon Pilates and looking forward to being with my tribe!
-
LilacBlue-This exercise program sounds great! It is truly sad how vast cancer has become.
Karen-I can relate to your stress eating, as it is something I struggle w/ often. My DH bought 5 boxes of Girl Scout cookies. I need to really move now. Luckily I only had two cookies, but there are more in the cabinet.
Walked outside at the walking trail, as it was a beautiful day with the temperature in the mid 70s
-
Toured Frank Lloyd Wright's winter home and architectural studio and walked around at Fountain Hills....which has a walking path around a man- made lake with a big fountain that sprays up water every 45 minutes.
-
Hi all! Looks like you're having a great time Ruth!
Did 30 minute Leslie Sansone walk off the weight DVD today and met my step goal. The recent blizzard has kept me in but moving and cooking
-
Annie....I'm waiting on my girl scout cookies. I've asked someone twice and they keep saying yes, but so far, no cookies. As many kids that are in my neighborhood, no one comes to the door. I'm spoiled as both my girls sold girl scout cookies. My youngest is now a senior in high school so I've not had a cookies seller for several years. We always buy a case (when all 3 kids were home 2 cases) and they would last us all year. My DD just finished the last box earlier this month. I keep them in the extra bedroom on the closest shelf so they last!! It doesn't matter, I find something to eat!!!! especially if I'm enjoying a glass of wine.
I over slept this morning, didn't get up till 6:15 so only got a very short walk (10 minutes) before work, so a little short on steps today. Tomorrow morning its going to be in the teens so it will be a chilly walk....
-
I think there's a crying need for such programs, LB. Love the pics, Ruth, especially the lake ones. Not what comes to mind when I think of Arizona. Reader, meeting step goals during a blizzard is awesome!
Kicking and slapping myself with Body Jam last night. Weights and stretching after the class.
-
Hi All, I'm new in the group but am I trying to get in better shape in general, but also specifically before my DIEP flap in 3.5 weeks.
Ruth, six degrees of separation- my advisor in grad school (for historic preservation) was married to the president of Taliesen West.
Yesteray, I did 40 minutes of walking and biking, a leg circuit, abs/back and the upper body exercises prescribed by my physical therapist.
Today I plan to do 30 minutes of walking on the treadmill, or walk in the park depending on the temperature here in Detroit.
Karen- my daughter is in Girl Scouts. Here in Detroit, we don't actually receive the cookies until the end of February.

Love the cactus sculpture and nice to see sunshine! Yup Annie, vast is a good word.
-
I got up early walked and did some toning. We have walked a little from one place to another throughout the day. Tomorrow is our last full day here so I am being outside as much as possible.Welcome Jena! I thought it was especially interesting that Taliesin West is still an operating school of architecture. I will add a picture from Taliesin
to this post.

I was told 6+ weeks for my GS cookies. No door to door here anymore, the girls have websites or worse IMHO, the moms just take friend's orders on FB. It's a brave new techi world out there. At the gym feeding my ravenous Fitbit after another 10hr workday.

ruthbru, love the pics.
Rode my bike about 7 miles this morning then did 80 minute Bone Builders class this afternoon.
Expecting rain all day t'm and my sister will be off with the car. Will try and get over to mysunshine and spend the day helping her unpack so probably no other 'scheduled' exercise. Thursday-Monday will be in NC so probably not much exercise there either. Eeek.
Night sculpted friends.

Hi, Patoo!! You are moving and grooving!!! Have fun in NC!!
Ruth, love seeing your pictures!!
Hi, and Welcome Jen!!
Miss eating those Girl Scout Cookies!!
I still have a lingering cough, so only exercise today was cleaning some floors and my car windows!! DH washed and waxed my car!! 😃
-
Heidi, thanks for the encouragement! I love when the fitbit buzzes!
We're almost dug out here and I did a walking DVD again - have to admit I'm ready to get out of here.
G'night all. Patoo, don't overdo. And Ruth, love the pics!
-
Karen-I work at a school, so I am inundated w/ GS cookie sales. My daughter has been one as well, but this year she began Jr High. She now has began band and drill team, so the days are full. My fave is the Samoa or the Lemonade. It will definitely be better on my diet w/o her selling cookies. Wine and cookies sound good!
Scottie- The cookie sales have changed drastically in recent years. We use to go door to door pre selling, but now the cookies come in and they network w/ family, friends and co-workers. It is much safer for everyone this way, I would guess.
Ruth- Your pictures are making me want to visit AZ. It looks like the weather is working out too.
Today I went to the gym, as our weather got cold and windy due to a cold front blowing in. I worked out on the elliptical and did the workout ball for abs
-
Last year or maybe the year before was the first time that girl scout cookies were sold door to door instead of orders then delivering a few weeks later. My oldest daughter first started selling girl scout cookies in 1992!!!! In Colorado cookies have always been in January. Way back when it was orders then delivery in February. Now sales are in January and mid February start booth sales. If I have to wait for a booth sale at the store, will do so. I work in the schools but non of my schools have a troop!!!
Good walking day today. Got up and ran this morning at 5:45 before I got my shower. Usually I shower then walk, but I think I like this better. It was 18 this morning but its warming up the rest of the week!
-
Patoo, what is a bone builders class?
No actual dedicated exercise but I did lots of walking. Fitbit shows 11,200 steps and 22 flights of stairs!
I'd
-
1/26- double work out today with 20 min walk around the client site, plus 50 min resistance training at the gym tonight!
Ruth, I did Taliesian West tour ago and went to see the student structures that were made by the interns. Did you do that tour? So interesting.
Have you been to the Musical Instrument Museum? Did we talk about this when you were there before? Love the place!
-
My company went home so I have been getting back into some kind of routine. Sunday did Body Combat and U Jam, Monday did Grit Cardio and Body Jam and tonight was Body Pump and Zumba. Heidi I laughed when I saw your post cause I slapped myself silly again too, also when I did Grit we did a 5/10/15 challenge - 5 tuck jumps, 10 alligator push ups then 15 snowboarders in which you position yourself like you are on a board then you switch jump back and forward so come Jam time and we did those in out in and switch jump and chest pop, I did one and then though "oh no" I'm just gonna fake it I'm too tired, as an aside one of my young friends is in NZ for Jam filming this weekend I am so envious.
Welcome Stacey. Ruth AZ seems to be agreeing with you, are you considering being a snowbird? GS cookies are all around here too, i really like the Lemonade ones, I put them in the freezer and eat them ice cold. -
Cheryl, I'd too like to go to NZ and be at the BB filming. Ruth, I'm with Annie, Arizona looks terrific (certainly, I don't align with their politics) said on this grey, cold rain pelting the windows afternoon. Heidihill, it is forecasted to be a reality that cancer exercise specialists will be put in the NHS cancer recovery protocol mix, although if it really happens, who knows.
Vi box at the gym this morning and off to get hair colored.
-
Just got back from a nice, long walk. I know we'll be strolling around this afternoon and maybe I can sneak in another quick walk tomorrow morning before we fly out. We are lucky because we stay with our Snowbird friends who research all the interesting things to see and do in the area, and then we just go along for the ride. They are in a 55 plus community so we are pretty insulated from the wacko Arizona politics, as most of the people in those communities are mid-westerners or Canadians. DH would love to spend the winter here but I think I could only last about a month as I would miss my 'real life' too much....even with the cold and snow....fun to travel and fun to be home!
-
Gorgeous day in Denver. Had a great walk at lunch then went for a walk as soon as I got home a little after 4:30. Its staying warm through Saturday, and then Sunday winter returns. I love the sunny warm winter days in Denver.
-
Welcome Jena!
LB: Such exciting times for you. You will be a mentor, companion, expert, listener, inspiration to SO many people. So PROUD of you!
Ruth: Just gorgeous.
Karen: Your 2 walks today sound perfect.
I'm a co-Girl Scout Cookie Service Unit Manager for our Service Unit (it covers the county where I live). Saturday before last was cookie delivery day. We distributed over 3100 cases (12 boxes/case) that day. Luckily I didn't have to lift them as we had college volunteers who need service hours and strong truckers to help us. Troops will continue to get more cases as the sale goes on. Last week was Walk-About week where girls went door-to-door. And yes, they get a patch if they sale so many boxes during that week. I don't have a troop anymore so I have to buy my cookies from other troops. I have stayed in Girls Scouts and volunteer my time doing this for the Service Unit and I'm on the Gold Award Committee through our Council. The Gold Award (the highest award in Girl Scouts) is like the Eagle Award but most people don't know what it is.
The snow is gone now so today I walked/ran outside.
-
Hello all, beautiful snow melting day here. Got out, hit 10k steps and did 30 minutes of a Denise Austin DVD. I wanted to rotate the type of exercise i did today because last night my neck was a bit sore.
