Pregnant , suspected ibc
hey everyone...
Just hoping , more than anything to talk about what's going on. I'm 26, currently 21 weeks pregnant with number 2 and am army wife About 3 1/2 weeks ago I developed a bruise on my right breast and thought nothing of it. No trauma but aseemed it would go away.
10 days later I was at the ER with bad breast pain and a swollen , red breast as well as the bruise. The er doc took one look and said " I'm so sorry. I can't help you with this here, you need to see your primary doctor"
I went to her the next morning and she said she wanted to rule out inflammatory breast cancer since that's what all the symptoms pointed to and got a referral for an ultrasound. The ultrasound showed nothing so theyou referred me to surgery. I got a punch biopsy done and am now waiting the results.
I took off the bandage from Thursday and it wasn't so bad but in the last few hours it seems like a bruise is spreading throughout even though it's been two days.
Any words of encouragement? Advice? Anything?
I know my chances are so tiny but some unlucky soul has to be the 1 in 3000

Hi beachkitty:
The waiting and worrying while waiting for results is very, very hard. It is hard to focus on anything, but if possible, try to keep busy doing things you enjoy andthat hold your attention. Hopefully, you will be on the right side of the statistics, and have benign findings and get information about what is going on. Will keep you in my thoughts.

thankyou barredowl. I'm trying to be positive and keep my chin up
breast is black and blue from biopsy so just try not to look at it. Hoping to get the call Monday and be free from this.

If they really think there is any chance it is IBC and there is a palpable mass they should do a biopsy (stereotactic, or if you have lymph nodes that are enlarged they may do FNA - fine needle aspiration). Since you can't have an MRI right now this would be a good idea because the skin biopsy may not be definitive: I have IBC and my initial skin punch biopsy was negative. The rule with IBC is that you pursue it until you can prove that it isn't and treat it as if it is until then. I certainly hope it isn't IBC but there are so many stories of pregnant women who don't get a proper diagnosis (especially pregnant women due to hormonal changes and mastitis etc.) and time is of the essence. The good news, if it is IBC, is that you can start treatment while pregnant without harm to the baby, many have done this and their children are totally fine - chemo doesn't cross through. Wishing you the best, hope you get this sorted soon and it's good news, also glad you found this site because it can be very helpful.

I'm sorry you are going through this, especially during pregnancy which should be such a joyful time. My prayers and thoughts are with you. This forum is a very caring and informative place, I'm happy you found it. The waiting is so difficult. Do you best to stay away from "Dr. Google". Often times the information you read online is outdated or doesn't apply to your specific situation.

thankyou everyone , I don't plan on stopping until someone can look me squarely in the eye and tell me 100% that this is NOT ibc. I'm not willing to play with my chances of survival.
I don't have swollen lymph nodes every day so they're not very reliable as far as I can tell , how do I suggest that test Mamiya?
Thankyou for all the support, it's a time of extreme worly for sure but I'm trying to be positive for my soldier, 1 year old son and baby girl in utero
