I have a 14 mm architectural distortion with calcifications. I had stereotactic biopsy on Wednesday. Heard from the doc today that pathology was benign but radiologists disagree. I'll be having an excisional biopsy but they couldn't get me in for the consult for 3 weeks. BIRADS 4. Going crazy!

Discordant results for me as well. US core biopsy on January 7. Scheduled for MRI guided biopsy Tuesday. Reviewed the report and it appears they saw enhancement behind the clip so they may have missed area they wanted to biopsy. Birad of 4b.

The same thing is happening to me: no palpable lump but architectural distortion on my screening mammo. They did a core stereotactic biopsy - all 5 samples came back 'no malignancy detected', but they want to do a repeat biopsy to 'ensure sampling '. So.....I'm scheduled for tomorrow. Has anyone else here had this experience??

I am so thankful I have found this thread! Hate the circumstances but hey, what are you gonna do? I just wanted to post and say I am in the same exact boat. several mammo/us/ mri/stereobx all for 11mm stellate distortion. MRI shows enhancing nodule in same location (although I just realized I have no info on the margins, shape, kinetics on that. Duh) Nothing shows on US (not the distortion or the nodule). Path reports of distortion benign- normal breast tissue. Radiologist team doesn't agree. Recommends surgical excision. Seems kinda extreme to me to remove something that hasn't been confirmed so I am going to get another opinion on the images while I wait for a surgical consult on 3/25.

Hoping everyone had the same benign results. :)

My friend (who was motivated into getting her first mammo since ’91 after seeing me at a party after I finished rads) was diagnosed last month after core biopsy (done at a small regional hospital in the county seat near her little exurb), with grade 3 DCIS, >3.5 cm, comedo necrosis, ER-/PR- (no testing for HER2 in DCIS). Because she has small dense breasts, a major medical center in the Advocate health care system (where my husband, her PCP, is on staff) did an MRI (supine) which revealed a “large mass” elsewhere in the same breast. She was scheduled for MRI-guided stereotactic (prone) biopsy two weeks ago in prep. for surgery (not sure about lx w/rads v. mx) today--but because she caught that nasty respiratory bug going around couldn’t breathe when she was put in the prone position. She’s been rescheduled for the MRI biopsy tomorrow, but at an even larger hospital in the same health system--which has a national reputation for cancer care. This second hospital, though, wants to repeat everything but the original mammo & core biopsy--including re-analyze the original tissue samples. They’re not sure the second “mass” that showed up on MRI isn’t just inflammation from the biopsy. She’s up in the air now, not knowing whether she has pure DCIS or IDC, how big the mass(es) are, whether to trust the original path report or even--given the fact she’s 70, widowed 16 yrs, “not in the market,” as she puts it, and hasn’t worn a bra in 30 yrs--whether to just have a bmx and “be done with it."

Good morning all - It has been a while since I have posted and I am back in the system again. Pretty much the same spot as before. Update on the surgical consult form 1.5 years ago: I went to a well known specialist and he believed it was pretty much up to me to have the distortion removed due to discordant results. Either that or short term follow-up. Since I am not much of a worrier by nature and to be honest was quite tired of all of the incongruent medical advice/results, I chose to take a break. Fast forward to now, I had my 3D mammo and follow up US yesterday and they took quite some time to come back to me with results (which I am so grateful I get results the same day from a dr.) Basically, the area of distortion that was previously biopsied has grown. (Before it was 11mm) They got the team together since my case is "complicated" and best decided that another MRI was necessary to see if the nodule that shows only on MRI has grown as well.

My question is (which I didn't ask yesterday because it has been a while since I have researched this a nd forgot about it) - has anyone had a circumstance regarding distortion changes after biopsy? I have read quite a bit that distortion can be caused by previous biopsies. But then I read that the distortion heals or decreases over time. It has been 1.5 years and is larger.

It is all very, very confusing.

suzythatisme and anamia3-me - Any updates on your end??? I know it has been a while..
