No, but I would love to know what your thoughts of him are. I only ask because I will be looking for a surgeon who performs the DEIP around my area. How was the consultation? Did he explain the procedure with you? Where you able to see his before and after photos? What is his failure rate? I'm sorry to ask so many questions.....I'm so excited for you!! I'm giving myself until next spring to have surgery....if I don't chicken out again
I had a consultation with Luis Jaramillo MD at UT Medicine and wasn't too impressed. Someone told me about MD Anderson and that they accept my insurance...so maybe...
Good luck!

My consult with him went very well. He explained it very nicely to me. To me what was important is that he understood my stance on the reconstruction. He is quite new and mentioned a failure rate of less than 2%.

Hi! Just curious, what is a DEIP? I just had Dr. Chang do the reconstructive work after I had a sternectomy (removal of the sternum where my breast cancer metastasized to four years ago.). He did a fantastic job, and his bedside manner is wonderful. He spent up to an hour explaining the procedure in full detail. He did a flap from my leg and transferred skin, tissue, and muscle to the area where the sternum was removed and a bovine mesh was inserted as a prosthesis by a thoracic surgeon. The entire procedure was completed in one surgery over the period of about eight hours. I am sure he has before and after photos to show you. MD Anderson is an amazing facility and I had a fantastic experience there, the nurses will take great care of you. My best to you!

Thank you so much, I had a really good interaction with him but was getting nervous and need some input from the forum so I really appreciate you writing back. DIEP is taking the abdominal tissue and using it for breast reconstruction. My breast surgeon did say that she absolutely loves working with him. I will post after my surgery as I know Sharon wanted my input.

Hi hopeful123. So did you end up using Dr. Chang?I have a consult with him in February. Would love any input.

I use Dr. Chang and I love him!! I had a double mastectomy to tissue expander surgery in September of 2014. Since then, I've had my exchange (04/15) and one round of fat grafting (10/15). My next round of fat grafting is in March. Dr. Chang is always so positive and upbeat. I always go in with a list of questions and he never rushes me or makes me feel like I'm asking to many questions. I can't say enough about how wonderful he is. His PAs and nurses are just as wonderful.

I am proud to say that I have been working with Dr. Chang since 2013. I had breast implants, and had 2 surgeries on the right breast with lumps removed. He had to remove the implants, then replace them and he was so kind and caring the entire time. he has a wonderful bedside manner. No question is silly
