Abnormal Mammogram & Ultrasound, What's Next?

edited January 2016 in Waiting for Test Results

Age 37, dense breasts, several cysts in both breasts. I had a mammogram & ultrasound in July, was told there was something, "probably benign" in left breast, repeat ultrasound in 6 months.

January, ultrasound. My doctor reviewed the results and said they wanted to refer me to a breast specialist but basically said "just call them and they'll tell you what further tests you'll need". So I called, and the receptionist said their first appointment is April 5th. She seemed to think that I was supposed to know what tests I was requesting.

So how do I go about finding a doctor that can help me? What exactly am I looking for? Am I requesting certain tests or just an appointment for an initial consult?

Sorry if my questions are dumb; I really have no idea what I'm supposed to be asking or thinking and of course, I'm scared out of my mind.

    Hi,

I bet you're feeling frustrated! As a former Social Worker, I definitely encourage you to contact your referring Physicians office and ask to speak to the clinic social worker, or patient care coordinator. You can then request assistance from them to aid in your being seen elsewhere in a more timely fashion.

Best of luck, I've been on the every 6 month Mammo and US train for two years and it does get easier to maneuver the office cultures with time.
