Does anyone not love their 'girls?'
Hi ladies,
I feel like an idiot for not loving my reconstructed breasts.....I mean, I have "breasts" after a double mastectomy and I should be elated with them. I loved them for 3 weeks, they were amazing. But, now I see how they scrunch up when I use my pec muscles. Although they are the same size implant, my right(cancerous) side appears smaller. I wanted a more natural look, so went with implants under the muscle. Now I feel like I would be happier with over the muscle implants so I don't have the scrunch factor. Everything looks amazing under clothes, but I go to the beach a lot in the summer and don't want to be self conscience. I don't see my PS until March to discuss nipples.

I also hate the scrunched up look I also thought mine would be more lifted I have to wear s push-up they look great in a push up bra but can't get away without one I discussed fat grafting but I'm thin and not sure I have enough fat and don't want to go throw more surgeries
-
No, I don't love my reconstructed breasts except in clothes they are pretty normal looking. My scars are hyperpigmented nearly 2 years out and they do the scrunch thing when I move wrong. Next month I'll be getting mastectomy tattoos and I think it will make all the difference.
-
Stephmoen-I hear you about not wanting any more surgeries!
-
FINALLY~! Other women who are not happy with the reconstruction either. I try to explain it to my husband and other people, but they just don't get it. My husband has been exceptional throughout this whole ordeal and didn't even want me to endure another surgery to reconstruct, but I had to. For me.
I haven't gotten the implants yet due to complications with skin breaking open where it was thin, but hope to in March or April of this year. I just had several stitches placed on Tuesday where the opening was, and am hoping they heal right and hold or I'm tempted to have the expanders removed and not even bother with it anymore.
My breast size after all of this reconstruction will be AA at best, I was a full C before cancer. I think we're going to do a 200cc implant on both sides. My skin simply cannot stretch any further, and I am not up for the long flap surgery.
I wish there were pictures of women with small implants after reconstruction on this site so I could sort of get an idea of what they'll look like, becasuse all I find are pictures of women with big breasts on any other site I look at. -
lorihoop, welcome to Breastcancer.org. You may find these pictures helpful: Reconstruction Pictures
-
Thank you. I did look at all of those, and they are all pretty large chested women. Do you know of another site that has pictres of women with very small implants?

None of those pics have scars like mine. Im not that happy with mine either. Esp my masectomy breast-very scarred, rock hard and uncomfortable, tried tatoo twice and it has failed twice and nipple reconstruction failed. Nothing at all like a "boob job" which is what everyone thinks it looks like. Also have the hamburger bun front-it doesnt project like I would like it to.
-
I'm not happy with mine either. They're uncomfortable. I am looking to get different ones placed above the muscle his time.
-
Chamomile-let me know what you find out. I haven't researched thoroughly but read it can be difficult to place above muscle once the specs have been stretched. I'm trying to not think about revision too much until I see PS in March.
-
Hi Ladies--
I haven't been here in a long while, but I saw this thread whilst looking up my own breast problems. The short of it is that I'm not in love with my girls either. I just had revision surgery less than 2 weeks ago, due to pronounced rippling in both beasts. My surgeon put in larger implants and some alloderm. I was so sure I'd be thrilled with the results, but today after I got out of the shower (just got my drains out yesterday), I noticed rippling again!
Is there any possibility that it will sort itself out when my boobs settle? I don't know if my insurance will cover a second revision.
-
Im not in love with my unilateral reconstruction either. The minute I saw it I thought, "I know they can't match and Im looking for symmetry but this thing is huge!" Plastic surgeon didn't appreciate my Whopper and a Whopper Jr. analogy but I'm sorry they look just like it! In a loose shirt they do look pretty close. I'm also still very aware of the implant's presence under my pec. I wonder if a smaller implant wouldn't feel as strange.
Made an appt with another PS in my HMO to get a more objective opinion. (Unless they just back each other up all the time). I'm not willing to do any lifting or augmentation to my natural breast. I know I have to accept some limitiations because of this.
-
Hi Iwanna,
I had a revision because of rippling. I had several really deep obvious ripples (bilateral nipple-sparing mastectomy). My PS and I discussed replacing the implants for bigger ones or trying fat grafting. We went for the fat grafting. It's been almost 5 months now, and I still don't see any ripples. I can feel some--and of course I obsess about whether or not they look "natural." But there definitely aren't visible ripples. Insurance did cover my fat grafting. Hope you get the results you want!

I am right there with you!
I was happy at first, but then the whole animation thing is just way too much!
And I have capsular contracture my PS isn't doing anything right now so I will wait to see her in April.
I really hope we can do better!
P.S. I had FG and my body absorbed it all within three months!

My problem is not being able to think of them as "breasts"...I jokingly call them my water balloons in an attempt to make light of it...But iatyq, I wish they were softer...I always think ppl can tell if there is a hug involved...I was a 36 D before the double mastectomy, and I'm a 36 D now...I have 600 cc implants behind the muscle...However, they were 450 cc filled to 600...This is my 3rd set in 25 years (yes, I'm getting pretty old now lol)...I haven't asked the PS why he didn't use 600 cc implants, instead of filling, but I will in May when I go in again...Btw, I just had my 13 year old implants changed out (8 weeks ago) because I had trauma to the right side, seem to be having some capsular contracture, and things were getting pretty "rippley" anyway...This will be my last time, because I just will not do surgery anymore...This time was just too hard on me! Having said that, I'm in good shape, healthy, and grateful that I, at least, have some semblance of normalcy...However, I still miss my original "girls", after all these years lol...

I would think you could get low cost insurance through the ACA? Insurance is such a pain. I hope you can get it worked out. I'm likely facing a revision for rippling and a pocket that seems to have opened up, perhaps from an aggressive direction during the MX. Mine are above the muscle so you can definitely feel the edges of the implant. At least I don't have capsular contracture! 😁
-
calidancer i can feel the implants it is so gross .. anyway OI need to look into what options I have here .
thanks good luck to you . how do you know the pocket has opened up. I think mine are under the muscle

Hi ladies, I had my 3 month follow up with PS last Monday. She was very pleased with the girls and gave me info on tattoos. I had been waiting for this appt thinking of discussing a revision. Then the reality of the fact that this is as good as it gets hit me! The last 11 months of.my life came.flooding out...I was a hot mess for a good 2 days! I need to process all of this and make tattoo and professional bra fitting. Need to keep moving forward.

Yeah, my breast is ok ish now, i am 5 weeks out from my 15th breast reconstruction surgery, Had uni mx with TE under muscle, was going to get DIEP. Heard about fat grafting., took out TE, too, too tight and painful. Did Brava Fat grafting 5 times with inexperienced doctor, reabsorbed most of the fat, or lost alot to 2 severe infections because radiation damage messed me up big time. Then started over with new PS , this time had TE put OVER my pectoral. Much better, not much pain , then TE /implant exchange. My new PS , nice guy, but had my TE inflated to 600cc's, only looked slightly big compared to my real right breast. He used some screwy computer simulation program, put in a 420cc moderate profile implant. Way, way too small. Knew it was too small the minute I woke up from surgery. Tried to make the best of it, had my other side lifted. Then my nipple reconstruction surgery. My implant glaringly too small. My husband didn't get it.He would say its fine, "what, are you going to a nudist colony?" It looked like I had the breasts of two different women on my chest, like say a 17 year old on the implant side, and a grown woman who had nursed children on the right. I couldn't look at it straight on in the mirror. That plus the lack of a nipple made me want to cry. So did surgery again, 5 weeks ago to get a larger implant, now 495cc high profile. Better, now it looks like my breasts when I was 25 on the implant side, closer match to my still slightly saggy lifted breast. SIGHHHHHH, SIGHHHHHH, SIGHHHHHH. ..........

Hi! I had lumpectomies and radiation and one breast was half the size of the other so I went for reconstruction.......and still am not happy. I knew they would not be perfect but they are still not the same size and the radiated side has my nipple way off to the side.....SO....at my last follow up, the PS said he could make a "significant difference" so this Friday I am doing a little more reconstruction......
I do have smaller implants (I think 210 and 240) and they are not HP, I wish I had pushed for HP for more projection. I joined JustBreastImplants because I really didn't know anything about implants and it's a great community with lots of support but you have to remember that these are healthy women mostly that are having augmentation so yes, their breasts are usually perfect and beautiful but they are very nice. It's not a cancer website. The reason I am saying this is because I have the same userid on that site and I do have a lot of photos posted if you want to join and look at my pics BUT THEY ARE NOT PRETTY. I wear a sports bra 95% of the time, day and night. I'm not sure what I will look like after Friday but if you want to join JBI and search my userid you can see my photos.
The radiation really did me in. BUT I AM HAPPY TO BE ALIVE, THAT'S FOR SURE!

Hello Dogsneverlie. I tried to find you on the Justbreastimplants site after joining. Couldn't seem to find you. Sorry to hear that you had such rads damage. So did I. I had blotchy, hyperpigmentation all over my breast. I also had broken blood vessels. Got worse again after I had another surgery in March. I had got rid of it spending a small fortune ($320) at the Dermatologist last year with Laser therapy. Planning to do that again in a couple of months. The Laser really helped, my PS really thought it improved my skin appearance a good bit.

Hello everyone,
There is HOPE!
Well I am happy to say that I am having an exchange of implants!
June 17th I will have these complications resolved I hope and pray!
I have a nasty case of Capsular Contracture which is causing a whole set of other issues.
I also have Dynamic Deformity which also have it's set of issues.
I am so grateful!
Robin
-
RAK1-what did you get for implants? I am now having an issue with one implant shifting. MRI Weds to check for rupture-joy! Either way, I will need a revision. I have started researching over the muscle implants because the dynamic deformity is really annoying.
-
I am wondering if anyone really loves theirs. They will never really be like the real thing, but they can be nice and you can learn to like them (and maybe even love them) for what they are.
At this point in history we have come a long way from the days where the only choice was a radical mastectomy. Plastic surgeons can now create very good looking foobs. But let's face it they still come with issues.
Mine look pretty good. I would say I have what most would consider "good results". But I have some rippling on the outer edges. I can live with it. One thing that bugs me is that the outer edge of one is less full looking. I am hoping to have more fat added to that area in December.
-
Yeah mine scrunch once in a while too.
