Glad everyone is surviving your wild weather! Aside from anti cancer pills, what do you all keep in emergency kits?

Well, so far this weekend, I have Xc skied, back country snow boarded, snow shoed, and gone sledding. I also made elk red chili from scratch on a wood stove. Kind of a grand slam! You all are an inspiration!

    Sounds fun, Jen!

Emergency kit--same size as an Altoids tin. Bought a set of several tins on Amazon.

    image

A packet of sunblock fits nicely in the lid, with other contents in the compartment. I have the intention of adding a laminated medical card that includes my Medical Alert number, but I haven't yet. Now that I have some spare Tamoxifen I may throw one in, but this is primarily my stung-by-a-bee/allergy-and-asthma/anti-LE kit, not my earthquake/revolution/Tank Girl supplies.

    image

    Contents of kit:

    • 30 SPF sunblock
    • Tribiotic
    • Bandages
    • Alcohol wipes
    • Eye drops
    • Cough drops
    • Advil, Benadryl, aspirin

Now contemplating the "Tank Girl" emergency supply kit. but definitely taking notes on the "altoids box sized" emergency kit.

I'm pretty sure we don't want to know what TG herself carries--her boyfriend is a mutant kangaroo.

And thirteen year old me snickers...

That looks like a really good idea ksusan. I'm going to put together something similar, all credit to you!

Its gotten quiet here...everyone still on the wagon? I'm still hanging on making small steps forward. Near 10k steps daily now and yesterday finally making progress adding strength training to my routine. Haven't had problems with lymphedema yet, but worried so hoping going slow and advancing slowly will be ok for my arms.

I'm here still. Trying to build endurance on my new little exercise bike. It's shaping up to be an excessively rainy winter here in Oregon so the bike gives me no excuse to get some kind of workout in daily. I downloaded an app for "high intensity interval training" which directs you to push hard for 20 seconds then go slow for 20 seconds so that's been my strategy with the bike. I'm not especially motivated or hard core but I'm trying at least. It's not really accidental that my screen name contains the word "sloth."

Good for you Linda! I live in Northern CA and it has rained a lot here too. Thankful to have a treadmill at home...so I have no excuses! What's the name of the app you're using, sounds interesting. I'm definitely not motivated or hard core either, wish I was. But I've set small reachable goals for myself, so very very slowly I'm making progress. I find if my goals are too lofty I tend to just give up, so far going in baby steps and it's working.

Yup, still here. For January 61.9 miles spin, 15 miles walking, 127.8 miles bike, 3,885 feet of climbing. I just got sick of seeing myself post lol. And the rainy crap, etc. has definitely put a cramp in my style!

Still here and trying to lose 5 lbs. Today I did an hour of elliptical level 17, and I'm going to climb tonight. Last night I went ice skating...super fun!

Still here. I'm getting my 10k steps in mostly at work. Today I carried around a screaming 40lb child for an hour - that has to count for something aside from low back pain.

PB, the app is called Tabata trainer. It basically just announces the 20/10 second increments and keeps track of your reps. If you Google tabata workouts it explains the science behind the 4 minute high intensity thing. I thought I'd try it because I should be able to do anything for 4 minutes, even exercise. I put the app on my phone and use my tablet for reading or other distractions while I pedal like the wind for 20 seconds.

Sloth- you reminded me of something my dad used to do with me. He called it "scout's pace" and was interval type training of a spurt of jogging, maybe 20 seconds, then brisk walking for 30. It was fun. He also used to take me out to the Newport jetty, and we would go out past where the path was, "mountain goating" on the big boulders making up the end of the jetty. Pretty intense with the waves crashing over us. Kind of like mountain climbing horizontally. My mother and father were already divorced by then, but she still would have been horrified. Thanks for the memories.....

The mileage part (excluding stretches, planks, bicep curls, etc.)

    1/14: 8.35 miles (Zumba, walking)

    1/15: 6.25 miles (treadmill, walking)

    1/16: 6.0 miles (treadmill, walking)

    1/17: 7.0 miles (treadmill, walking)

omg Katy - that photo seems right out of Life magazine! It captures such beautiful energy. Speaking of energy, ksusan you continue to be a powerhouse:). I am keeping up with 'something' daily, and I am down 2 lb this week after starting work's biggest loser challenge.... I attribute this mostly to smaller portions and awareness. I go to my wonderful lymphedema trained physio today - yay- my radiated boob aka 'the pufferfish' enlarged on day 2 of rads.

I'm still trying, but had a crazy week. I had to travel for work, and I brought my workout clothes, but never made it to the hotel gym. We started our meetings at 7:30 in the morning, which meant I'd have to get up around 5 AM to work out - and the hotel work out room was small! Smaller than my hotel room - it was a Marriott Residence Inn, so I was surprised at how little real estate they gave to the gym, you would think that people who are living there (usually long term), would want to have a nice work out room.

My work meetings were a combination of in-person and via video, and I had to see myself on the camera, and I hate the way I look.

I've gained 2.5 pounds since the beginning of the year. I know that I said this wasn't about my weight, but I certainly didn't expect that I'd go up - especially so rapidly.
