CT scan done, appointment two days from now, is that bad?
My mom is the one diagnosed with Stage 3A breast cancer. She has already had a biopsy on her left breast and under arm. She is going to undergo a double mastectomy and reconstruction in the next two weeks. Today she had her chest, abdomen, and I believe the third one is pelvis, CT scanned which was ordered by her oncologist. The scan happened at 3pm today and she was already called tonight saying she has an appointment two days from now at 9:45 am with her oncologist. She's scared.. I understand that she doesn't know exactly what the appointment pertains to but she feels it's so soon to already have the results of her CT scan.
Is it normal to have an appointment that soon to already discuss the CT scan results?
Is it bad that the oncologist wants to see her already?
What is your experience with receiving your CT scan?
Thank you all and God bless. Fight!

Hi and welcome. We're glad you found us, though sorry that you have reason to be here.
I certainly hope that all of the imaging and biopsies come back favorable, but I just want to broadly address your question.
From my experience, it is completely normal to have an appointment scheduled with the MO (medical oncologist) for two days out. To me, that's the sign of a good doctor. Most MO's know that patients are on pins and needles waiting for these results and most good ones try to get that information to the patient as quickly as possible--whether that's the news the patient is praying for or not, just knowing alleviates so much anxiety. Try not to read too much into the timing of the appointment. I hope you get good news, but most here will tell you that the waiting is torture.
Is this her first appointment with the MO? If so, even better. It's a very good idea to consult with an MO before you make a determination on surgery. Oftentimes, the MO will explain that chemo should commence prior to surgery--especially if it's a double mastectomy.
Welcome again and good luck.

It is good that she is seeing the Medical Oncologist. Surgery is only part of the TX plan - the complete TX plan encompasses the Surgeon, MO and RO. There are different protocol for different types and stages.

I don't think it's abnormal to have the scan results that quickly. I had a CT scan before my BMX and I didn't find out until weeks later the results. I admit I figured if the results showed something bad I figure they would have called, but her MO may just have other things to discuss as well. Hopefully she gets good news! We all know how awful all the waiting is. For comparison's sake I also had a bone scan recently and again did not know the results until a couple of weeks later (clear). I knew this was for a baseline. My MO is aggressive and not shy about scheduling but doctors are different
