Imaging clear, pain unexplained

I would like some thoughts. Last month I started experiencing a sharp, burning pain in my left breast (and occasionally in the right), largely in one place. At 38, I've never had any breast pain, so it got my attention. My doctor did a quick check, didn't feel anything, and suggested that I wait until after my period to see if the pain would go away. It didn't, so this week I had a diagnostic 3D mammogram and an ultrasound. Both were clear. Yay! But what is causing the pain? I've never breast fed, so mastitis seems unlikely. My doctor didn't seem particularly interested in trying to figure this out. Any ideas?

This is what the Mayo clinic says about mastalgia. http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/brea...

I gather that sometimes they don't know.

solicita----did they happen to mention if you had fibrocystic breasts? If so, that can be a cause of breast discomfort / pain, and some things that can help allieviate it (if that is the cause) are decreasing your caffeine intake and taking Evening Primrose Oil.

Thanks, leaf and awb, for responding. Would the full mammogram/ultrasound report indicate if I add fibrocystic breasts? It didn't say anything to that effect. Instead, it said that everything look perfectly fine (with the disclaimer that since I have "heterogeneously dense" breasts they can't be 100% sure that there's nothing there). My doctor's office made it clear that since the scans are clear, they're no longer interested in figuring out why I'm having pain. I'll try the primrose oil to see if it helps. Reducing caffeine will be harder!
