Just checking back in as I have been trying for about year and a half to get more advanced genetic testing covered by insurance. Farmer Lucy, we were both trying at same time and unsuccessful getting coverage. I have had drawn three times and this time finally covered. I did the Invitae panel-already knew BRCA 1 & 2 negative and just got results everything else is also negative. So despite very strong family history we are either among genes not yet discovered or other factors in play. Not surprised but I wanted to know for my daughters' sake. Will continue to try and follow lifestyle recommendations for myself and them to reduce risks. Results came back in just three weeks-would recommend this company.

Same story and same results here. I did Color test. No genetic component known for me eithe

Genetic counselor said she will keep me updated on any new tests available and I don't mind doing for sake of research. My hope for next generation is that we can improve surveillance to avoid over treating but balance this with safety.

h2l - thanks for the update! I did Color Genomics too, all negative. Guess that is good news, but I also wouldn't mind having a mutation my DD doesn't have. I'm sure you know what I mean. Take care!

Glad you were able to get testing done as well. Not surprised testing clear but glad I did it. Won't change surveillance but does reassure me of initial surgical decisions. Family history still influences our kids with or without recognizable genes. Relieved to know I don't need to make any decisions based on these results.
Should not be so hard to get testing done. I realize testing is quite expensive at this point but if you meet criteria and geneticist (as well as MD's and surgeons) has recommended, this should be covered by insurance. Hope you are well

I think my insurer is still claiming they need more information. A little surprising given I was 45 at diagnosis and had bilateral cancer--my MO thought that would be compelling enough. At the time I thought we had no family history but have since discovered two, though neither are close--but one was diagnosed at 45 as well, I think. Needless to say I'm anxious--have been waiting since December 1

Wow Paxton 29... We could be twins. I too had bilateral disease (IDC) at 45. I just had my blood drawn today for the large 42 gene panel from Invitae. Now the wait is on! ugh....My insurance did not pay either. They did pay for the BRAC tests three years ago but not this time. Genetics called me in to do extra screening now that this more comprehensive test panel is available. I have three kiddos to think about..Its worth the 475 to me.
