Aquaphor?
How much Aquaphor should be used?
Also, some have mentioned using a soft piece of cotton t- shirt to put under the breast so ther's no skin on skin contact. When do you do this ( only at night when sleeping?) because I am trying to keep my beast is so greased up with Aquaphor that I don't know when to use the soft cloth?

Nolagrace, I slathered it on several times a day. I wore a soft cotton snap-front leisure bra during the day and it kept me comfortable, also kept things from getting gooey. Experiment and do what helps you feel comfortable. There is no "one right way". 😊

Glaxol base also works well without the greasy mess. put on throughout the day I just wore an old tank top ... tried the aquafor,...messy stuff.

I only used Aquaphor on my most sensitive area and used other lotion on the rest. I had a couple of bras that open in front and wore them exclusively. And I used a "breast sling" (google them!) just about every night

My radiation onc has bowls full of it (in the little tubs). I used Aquapfor twice a day. I would slather it right after my rad treatment and in the evening. No problems whatsoever but I had 19 rounds.

Hi Nolagrace
There is differing opinions about lotions. I used a water-based product called Miaderm, it was created by a radiation oncologist for radiation burns, but it is a bit pricey. I used aquaphor maybe three times during my treatment when my skin was at the worst point and needed something thicker (right before it started pealing was the worst). Some evenings I would take a shower with baby soap and just leave it dry. It seemed to help. Then if I really needed to, use something before bed. The most comfortable shirt I found was one of those midrift shirts that hangs on your shoulder that they sell in the teenage section (think flashdance). You could also tuck in under your breast when relaxing. Its the closest thing to not wearing anything since its so light and wispy.

I use Aquaphor on the healing areas. It's messy but I like the barrier that it creates between the outside world and my rather sensitive skin.
I wear a tank top under my clothes so the greasy stuff doesn't get on everything else and plan to throw the tanks away when this is all done. If the skin breaks, you'll need something else: I got a scrip for Silvadene, an antibiotic cream.

I just had my first visit with my Rad Onc yesterday and she gave me samples of the the Aquaphor. so of course I tried it last night on my feet with socks before bed...and what a sloppy mess....I have to dress up for work and will be having my treatments during the middle of the day....so she says to lather up in the morning.... and after treatments...I just see a messy situation here....I guess I will buy some tank tops to wear under my clothes for work ? Or Geni bras? This should be the least of my worries...but I have 35 treatments to do....she says the Aquaphor is the best so I'll see what happens....got my little tattoos yesterday too....Good luck to all of you...and any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated....

I did Aquaphor with good results (33 sessions). But what I was told was to NOT put it on until AFTER the zap each day (they said putting it on before would intensify the burn). I had mine midday also so brought a small tube in the dressing room & liberally applied it at the end of the appointment and again before I went to bed at night. I bought several really cheap full coverage bras which I could alternate while the others were in the wash & just threw them once I was done.

FYI I use something called un- petroleum by Alba. Exactly the same effect but without the petroleum which some believe is less than desirable. Good luck to all....
-
My RO recommended aquaphor. Toward the end of treatment I found Ava Anderson Non Toxic body butter and dream cream. I showed it to my doctor and she said I could use that instead. I really don't care for the ingredients in aquaphor - petroleum jelly, mineral oil, lanolin, alcohol. ick.

Thanks everyone, and I think Im going to do the same as Ruthbru I purchased the mens tank tee shirts and the arm hole was lower than by bras anyways....so I dont see what good they would do....this might sound silly but did you also apply under your armpti? or just the breast area....cause I have some "full fugure " bras that really cover the complete breast area and are nice and high on the sides....they are soft and no wires or anything...hopefully that would be enough...I was just wondering if the armpit needed to be covered with the goopy stuff too......thank you everyone for your input....this site has helped me in more ways than you could ever know.....have a great day...

I would only do the armpit if you're getting radiation there. Some women get the lymph nodes radiated and some don't. Mine is just the breast, so I don't think my armpit will be effected. (At least I hope not anyway!)
My rads start this coming Tuesday. I bought some really cheap cami's at Walmart for $1.99, (can't beat that!), and plan on wearing them underneath my bra and clothing so they don't get all nasty from the Aquaphor.
As of right now, I plan on putting on Aloe right after my treatment and then putting the Aquaphor on before bed each night. -
Unless they are radiating your armpit, you don't need to glop that up too.

Got it ! First treatment was yesterday, I only covered the breast in the morning, and my old soft big bras covered it good, when I came home I covered the whole area, alot ! put on an old tee shirt and my pajamas.....my DH had dinner ready for me ...and I went to bed....not to bad for first time....34 more to go....God Bless us All....at least I have the weekend to relax...and watch the snow.....

I'm using Aquafor at night, and was suggested by my nurse to try "My Girls" cream, which I found on Amazon and
had it in hand in just a few days. It's light and soothing and after 15 treatments my skin is holding up very well.
I put it on immediately after the treatment and before bed.
Even with being very fair and having bilateral radiation and the lymph nodes on one side, so far, so good. Hope this
helps someone else!

Gailhilt, Im doing the same, Aquaphor at night and Miaderm during the day, it is expensive ,but I did find the My Girls cream on amazon, and it has the same ingredants as the Miaderm ! I think its made in Hungry or something, Im going to order a jar....Thanks for the advise....hope you are doing well.....

I carry some Aquaphor (got a couple of tubes left over) in my purse for when my hands get chapped. Though I never did get irritation or pain on the radiated area, I did get (and continue to have) some fine flaking. My LE therapist suggested either CeraVe heavy-duty cream or Curel Itch Relief lotion for the breast, and CeraVe regular moisture lotion for the rest of me. I also have a tube of something called Guitar Hands that was given to me in my swag basket when I played a guitar festival a couple of years ago--it’s meant to keep guitarists’ hands supple and fingertip calluses smooth without peeling or flaking. OK for everyday, but no match for a Chicago winter. I see commercials all the time now for an ointment called “Working Hands;” wonder if it’s the same thing.

Hi again! Another week out, week 4, and my upper chest area is getting red and sensitive.
Both my nurse and RO suggested stopping the Aquafor for the weekend and use just My Girls.
They said Aquafor can be too heavy, keeping heat in, skin not breathing.
It seemed to have lessened the sensitivity by not using Aquafor these couple of days. Had another
treatment today and am more red and sensitive. Will talk with them about it at tomorrow's appt.
12 more to go.

I do my armpit because it's really red and sore also. I'm having WBR and I didn't have anything in my lymph nodes, but that armpit is taking a beating.
