Lumpectomy Lounge....let's talk!

Marijen, yes I have had exactly that experience. Twinges of pain behind my nipple like I did before I felt the lump and a tender lymph node. Doesn't seem to matter to my brain that I had a clean MRI in September.
-
Poodles you have been through so much. I am hugging you as well.
-
I’m still getting twinges in my operated-and-irradiated right breast (aka “Louise”), especially after each MLD session. But from the moment I found out last Aug. that I would need a biopsy, I began getting sympathy pangs (and creepy-crawlies) in the left one (“Thelma”) as well. I mentioned that to Bob and he said, “Maybe Thelma’s scared for her sister.” Seeing as how my L mammogram report said “normal scattered fibroglandular densities," that seems to be as scientifically valid an explanation as any.
-
Seems alot of us have had twinges or pains in the good side Marijen. I really don't think it's anything to worry about. I do know that one residual side effect that has maintained since radiation and over 4yrs is...I get a cramp in my chest, it just happens, you can be sitting doing nothing or bend the wrong way. In the first year I spoke to my BS about it, and he said unfortunately nothing can be done it's a side effect of radiation. Ive learnt to live with it. Marijen it does sound like nerve pangs.
-
So Molly are they just twinges or do you think something is there? Would you be feeling it in your good side?
Chisandy - Bob is cute, he's a keeper. My left/good side showed a suspected lymph in my breast (not armpit) but they said it was normal. That was last March/April. Never felt these twinges and zingers before on the left..... but I did find a node I can feel in my left armpit. Could be psychosomatic? but they seem real. Got to stop thinking about it until it gets worse or I see the RO end of Jan. (sigh).
-
Marijen, I think it's just me noticing these things now however I think if it worries you you should have it checked. I see my BS this week so will mention to her what I feel even though I am sure everything is fine.
-
Molly, I have big nodes behind my knees and worry about those too! On "lefty" I'll just have to stay vigilant and speak up. Time to start the journal so I can remember all the symptoms. Glad you will check with your BS on yours.
-
I think it's just a thought constantly in the back of our minds. Totally understandable considering all we have been through. On the other hand you have the right to be taken seriously so don't let any doctor make you feel like you are wrong to be concerned.
-
Marijen, are you sure those are nodes behind your knees and not Baker’s Cysts? Shortly before I tore my right lateral meniscus, I developed swellings behind both knees, causing me to limp painfully, restricting flexion and requiring me to use a cane. They were caused by fluid building up in front of the knee and draining to and pooling in the back. Physical therapy, fixing the meniscus, and later replacing both knees, caused them to disappear.

Wow I didn't know that Calendula comes from marigold flowers - they have always been my favorite. Calendula has healing powers, my RO's nurse said to start it early and "heal" the skin before starting rads.
Going to check out marigold tea.....

Today I get to take a shower!!! 😊
My back is killing me from laying. I know I need to start moving around. Took my last Percocet last night. Switching to Tylenol today.
Also started feeling some mucus in my throat last night. Is that from the tube in my throat
-
enjoy that shower Renee! I cannot remember if I had a lot of mucus, but I definitely had a sore throat. I also found that my upper body, chest back and shoulders really hurt (Felt like I had done a good upper body workout, but of course I hadent). I hadn't been expecting that. I was told it was because during that surgery my arms are spread open, and being in that position for so long causes some muscular pain a few days after.
-
LovesToFly:
Good Morning!!! Makes sense! I get this occasional cough & it hurts to cough. Ugh!! Hope I not getting sick on top of this!!
-
Enjoy your shower, Jersey Renee. I had mucous in my throat after my lx. Not bad just annoying.
-
Good Morning Molly50:
Yes it isnt bad but like you said it is annoying. Just worried with Pneumonia. My papers state need to walk to avoid Pneumonia & blood clots. I will do my best today to move around more.

hello everyone--I was diagnosed a few weeks ago with dcis with microinvasion. high grade. Just had a lumpectomy with snb on 1/13 . Having some pain but is tolerable with ice and tylenol. Do the results of the final path determine if you need chemo? I was told probably radiation for sure, but nothing else. And I was wondering why some of you had an MRI before surgery and others didnt? I never had either an MRI or US. Thanks....just trying to learn all of this in such a short time..
-
Renee, You probably had a a breathing tube during surgery which has made your throat sore and causing you to cough. It does hurt when you cough. It should go away in a day or two. It is probably not pneumonia since you only had your surgery on the 14th. No matter what keep moving it will help you heal faster.

Welcome bella_16, I am sorry you need to be here but glad you found this warm, wacky group of women. Chemo is often decided by the oncotype Dx test. There is one for DCIS, you may want to ask your MO if they plan on having the test done. Oncotype Dx for DCIS Sometimes high grade equals chemo but I am not sure with DCIS.
-
Oh poodles.... I'm so sorry what you and your family is going through. As for the hairdresser... Next time say "oh, I'm so sorry that you're such an angry person". Say it with a sweet voice and walk away. It's so empowering💪🏻
I was happy to have an MRI last week and now can rest a bit with a clear right breast and no other signs of cancer in diagnosed left other than the little fucker they already found😬
The only thing that I am waiting for is my genetic testing results. Other than that, it's mentally preparing for surgery on the 26th.
Brit- great buzz cut
-
Bella_16, after looking at your signature since you are estrogen negative it isn't likely that oncotype will be used. Are you still waiting on the HER2 results?
-
thank you Brutersmom:
Hoping after my shower & getting this tight compression bra off & switching to surgical bra will also help me feel better!
Bella__16:
You had your surgery the day before me. So you just had a Mammo & diagnosed through biopsy? I cant answer why you never had an MRI or US. I had an MRI after my biopsy which then they found this second area next to DCIS. I then had the wires placed by MRI before my surgery Thursday. Both areas were removed & 2nd area will be tested so I could be exactly like you with a microinvasion. Hoping it just a result from the biopsy! So I wont know my treatment until pathology comes back.
-
Renee... I had a hysterectomy a year ago and my throat was sore off and on for a week afterwards due to the airway tube. The mucous is just the bodys'way of healing. Some nice warm chamomile tea and honey might help😊
-
thanks MLP3!
I will try that!!! 😊
-
hi Bella! I'm sorry you have to join us, but this is an awesome group Yes your pathology results will likely guide your treatment, but if you're not comfortable with that, definitely seek a second opinion. Radiation is pretty much a given with lumpectomy, chemo depends on pathology and oncotype (if they do it). I am doing chemo in the reasoning is that even though my tumor was quite small, and great too, there was a small spot in one of my lymph nodes. As much as chemo sucks, I'm glad to be doing it. It is very strong, and very effective. I want to know that I have done everything I can to avoid ever dealing with this again. It's no guarantee, but at least I feel that everything that can be done is!
I had several ultrasounds, several mammograms, but no MRI. I'm not sure why that is, my oncologist told me that I would have one when all my treatment is done. I do know that I would've been uncomfortable without the ultrasounds, because I have somewhat dense breast tissue, and I'm not sure everything that needed to be seen would be through mammogram. You should definitely ask her oncologist why more imaging wasn't done, and if more imaging is recommended?
After I got my pathology back, I did do more imaging, but not so much for my breasts. Chest, abdomen, bone scan. This was the check for metastases, due to the lymph node involvement

Good Morning Jill,
I am in Brampton and have been reading your posts, and I just read a few of your blog entries. I wanted to say hello from the north west corner of the GTA.
I hope your treatments go well, and it all flashes by in the blink of an eye. .
Nikki

Bella, Welcome! You've come to the right place for information, comfort, warmth and caring! Glad you're doing well. Your path report (and perhaps Oncotype test) will determine if you need chemo. You will also find out your HER2 status. Each of these pieces are needed to find the best course for you.
Please be sure to update your profile to include your Lx and make it public. Where in Michigan are you? There are several of us who get together regularly in Jackson and at our next meet-up we'd love to have you join us!
HUGS!
-
Renee- yay for a shower! It will feel so good. Yes, I had a sore throat and cough/mucous- it's the breathing tube most prob. Move some but be sure to rest as well. I think the surgery positioning and then, lying around make you sore but don't over do it!
-
JerseyRenee: isn't that first post-surgical shower wonderful now?
-
thank you Nikki! I actually live in Thornhill, and go to Brampton often when I am in my usual job ( i'm doing a contract position right now! I love Brampton it's so nice, great parks and shopping! I hope you are doing well!
