I had my biopsy 8 days ago. I got my initial results on Monday but I'm still waiting on the hormones and HER2. What is the typical wait time?

I would say pretty standard is 1-2 weeks. For us they took 3 weeks and didn't do the HER2 until after. That being said I wouldn't say our experience is anywhere near standard.

ok. I was initially told 24-48 hrs after the initial biopsy results so maybe that person was wrong.

    Thanks

melgirl - usually you would have the ER/PR results after the wait you have already had, sometimes the Her2 takes a bit longer - especially if there was a need for more than one type of test to confirm status - which is common, and not all labs do that particular testing.  There is often an addendum pathology report on biopsy samples.  I would call your doc's office and ask what the hold up is.  Biopsy results in 24-48 hours would be pretty fast, although not unheard of.  Mine took a week.

I got the initial "it's cancer" phone call within 24-48 hours after biopsy , but that was fast. The detailed report took almost a week (ER, PR, Her2 status).

I just had a biopsy about 10 days ago and the path report as well as the addendum with ER/PR were available within 72 hours but the HER2 STILL isn't back...

Thanks everyone! I think I will call my doc on Monday and try to get an update. I also had an MRI on Thursday so I would really like to know the size I am dealing with. There was controversy. From mammo to the two ultrasounds the size range is 3cm to 5plus. My GP was so good about calling me and I don't feel like it's going to be the same with my surgeon.

I called the surgeon's nurse to ask about using contrast for my MRI and she seemed a little put out with me. She checked the order and told me it was with contrast.....although I still had to correct the people at the facility before they did it! Before I talked to the surgeon's nurse a nurse navigator from the clinic called me so I asked her about using contrast with the MRI. She was very condescending and said she was sure that whatever was ordered was what they wanted and I needed to stay off of message boards!

I was very irritated. I am a Nurse myself. I know that mistakes are made when ordering tests and when tests are put into the system.

Anyway, I will follow up on Monday and see how far I get.
