Hello,

I was diagnosed with stage 1 DCIS in2007, and again in 11/15 on the same side, close in proximity.

I had a needle biopsy in early Nov 2015 and in late December I noticed a long think lumpy area with a small hard spot at the end. It is approx 3 inches below the biopsy site. The breast has been oddly itchy for a month or so, and I have assumed this was all related to the needle biopsy. But tonight I noticed that the skin around this area is quite discolored, similar to sun damage. It is on. The lower part of the breast and hasn't seen the sun in 20 years.

Is it possible to have both types of cancer at the same time? My breast surgeon said in Dec that it is most like a hematoma from the biopsy. Am I being paranoid?

I was told no chemo is necessary and am scheduled for a bi lateral mastecomy on jan25 but wondering if I need additional tests before then

    Hi Beth-

We want to welcome you to our community here at BCO. We're sorry you find yourself here, and that you're heading down this road again, but we hope you find the support you need!

IBC is typically very aggressive, with symptoms developing and progressing quickly, often times within days and sometimes hours (http://www.breastcancer.org/symptoms/types/inflamm...). The fact that the symptoms you've described have developed over the course of the last few weeks, and given that your doctor seems confident that it's a hematoma related to the biopsy, are good signs. If you notice any other changes, it's always best to bring it to your doctor's attention, just to be on the safe side.

Good luck on your surgery, keep us posted on how you're doing!

I know you are scared, we all would be. That's what we do because at some point our worry was validated. I don't know much about IB , but it's good your doctor isn't worried. I'm 6 weeks out of my mx and returning to work today. This site is a great resource. You will find a lot of information here.

    Hugs
